MoRisen Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MoRisen Records is an independent record label, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, started in 2001 by Chuck Morrison.
Cultivating local and regional talent, MoRisen Records has emerged as one of the premier indie record labels in the United States, and has successfully created opportunities for its artists' songs by placing them in film and television through its co-publishing deal with Lionsgate Music. In December of 2005, MoRisen Records recording artist The Talk had one of their songs, "N.Y.L.A.," from their 3rd album "The Sinners of Daughters," placed in the hit TV series "The O.C." Also, 3 other MoRisen artists, Snatches of Pink, Alternative Champs, and The Talk had songs featured on the soundtrack for the movie "Waiting," starring Ryan Reynolds, in 2005, and the upstart label also placed a number of songs that year in the new ABC Family hit show "Wildfire."
The recent 2006 Jessica Simpson and Dane Cook movie, "Employee of the Month," features 3 songs from MoRisen Records artists in the movie, and 2 on the soundtrack. The single "Trainwreck," from The Sammies debut record on MoRisen released in June of 2006, is in one of the best scenes of the movie, and another track from The Sammies, "Postman," is also in the film along with "Swimming in the Pool" by Alternative Champs.
2006 has also been a breakthrough year for MoRisen in the college radio charts with The Sammies appearing in the top 5 on 4 of the CMJ (College Music Journal) Charts through October of 2006.
North Carolina has been the home to several relevant independent record labels in the past and present with Mammoth Records in the 1990's, and Merge Records for the past 15 years. Both were founded in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
MoRisen Records is involved in the Charlotte community and constantly provides new and emerging bands from all over the region to play its NMX Showcases which feature 3-4 bands on one night at the Visulite Theater in Charlotte.
