[edit] Summary

Drawing by Mayanist scholar Sylvanus G. Morley, of a lintel inscription on the building known as the "Temple of the Initial Series", at the Chichen Itza site, showing Introductory Series glyphs. From his 1915 publication, An Introduction to Maya Hieroglyphs (figure 75b).

This building (also designated as "structure 5C4"), contains the only Initial Series Long Count date known for the Chichen Itza site (hence the name given to the building); all other dates found at the site are expressed in the "Short Count" style.

The Long Count date given in this lintel inscription (illustrated here by Morley) is:

10.2.9.1.9 9 Muluk 7 Sak (equivalent to July 30, 878 CE).
