This page is about the biochemical buffering agent. For information about other types of mops, see Mops (disambiguation).

MOPS is the common name for the compound 3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid. It is frequently used as a buffering agent in biology and biochemistry. Its chemical structure contains a morpholine ring. Similar pH buffering compounds include HEPES which contains a piperazine ring.

With a pKa of 7.20, MOPS is an excellent buffer for many biological systems at near-neutral pH.
