I am a great fan of Monteiro Lobato and have read all his books for children and some of his works for grownups. In reading his biography at WIKIPEDIA, I found fault with the statement that he was strongly in favour of the Brazilian federal government's establishing a state oil monopoly. It is easy to check on this by reading his book "The Petroleum Scandal". As a matter of fact, he had started himself a company for oil exploration and was very much at odds with the Vargas government because public officials at the National Department of Mines strived to prevent his company from developing its business. Lobato was an admirer of the US, where he had been Commercial Attaché during the administration that preceded Vargas' and was totally in favour of private initiative. I did not want to edit the article lest its author could feel abused or overstepped.
