Montgomery County (Maryland) Police Department

The Montgomery County (Maryland) Police Department--also known as MCPD, Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Department of Police--is a county police force and the primary law enforcement agency in Montgomery County, Maryland providing the full spectrum of police services to the entire county. It also provides aid and assistance to other police departments including Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, and in neighboring jurisdictions such as the District of Columbia, Howard County, Maryland and Prince George's County, Maryland.
The MCPD, led by the then-chief Charles Moose came into the national spotlight when it led the investigation into the Beltway sniper attacks MCPD mission. "Our mission is to safeguard life and property, preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, enforce the law, and protect the rights of all citizens. We are committed to working in partnership with the community to identify and resolve issues that impact public safety."

MCPD is headquartered at the county seat, the city of Rockville.
MCPD divides the county into six districts, each having a county police station.
