Montebello (station)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Montebello is a station on Kolsåsbanen (line 6) of the Oslo T-bane station. The station is located between Smestad and Ullernåsen. During regular service, Montebello is the first station not shared with another line, however from July 1, 2006 most of the line to Kolsås has been closed for upgrades. At first trains then turned at Montebello, but from July 31 Montebello was also closed with the opening of a temporary station, Husebybakken which now substitutes for Montebello. This temporary station is located a few hundred metres to the east of the regular station and serves as the current terminus for the line.[1]

The station is on the north side of the Ring 3 highway which runs in an arch north of Oslo. It is the closest station to the Radium Hospital which is 400 m away. Prior to the closure of Kolsåsbanen, trains switched from third rail to overhead wire systems at Montebello. After the upgrade the entire line will be third rail. As part of the upgrade, all stations on the line, including Montebello will receive longer platforms, capable of serving trains with up to six cars, an increase from the three car trains the line can serve now.

Montebello is located 6.0 km from Stortinget and was first opened on June 15, 1942.[2]
