Montclair Public Schools

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Montclair Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade from the Township of Montclair, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The district consists of seven elementary schools, three Middle schools and one high school.

Each school has a magnet theme, which becomes the focus of the school's teaching style. Parents have "freedom of choice" as to which school they want their child to attend, which may be based on location or on the particular focus of a school's magnet theme.[1] School selection is not dictated based on location of residence within Montclair.[1] When registering in the district, parents rank their school preferences from highest to lowest, with preferences given for siblings of existing students and special needs.[2] School preferences are accommodated as long as space is available and the schools are balanced by race.[1]
