"Monster Weather" is a Season 3 episode of the American animated television series Ben 10. It aired March 24, 2007.
[edit] Plot
Grandpa Max takes the kids to meet his favorite old time band at a music festival, where Ben and Gwen meet a weatherman named Vance Vetteroy. Vance has a robot named S.A.M. as his sidekick, which is designed to predict weather. He complains about the station turning it into a gimick when it is actually quite good at what it does. Vance decides to modify it to create weather instead of just predicting it in the hopes of advancing his career, but lightning strikes the robot during the attempt, giving it sentience. This causes the robot to create a monster made of water, which Ben defeats with Heatblast. Vance decides that destroying the robot would be best, but it convinces him that its new abilities could make Vance famous, and thus Vance spares it.
Although he saved the day, Ben is still angry at his grandfather for refusing to take him to a Sumo Slammer convention. Ben attempts to use XLR8 to go and come back in seconds; however, a band mistakes XLR8 for a band member in costume and drags him on stage. While XLR8 is playing the drums (badly), Vance releases his robot into the atmosphere once more, unaware that it has its own plans that don't fall in line with that of its creator. It takes the form of a monstrous thunder cloud and proceeds to lay waste to the city. Conveniently already in alien form, XLR8 chases down the cloud but can't stop it. In addition to being a cloud, and therefore intangible, S.A.M. has control over the lightning within the cloud, using it to keep XLR8 at bay. Gwen's suggests neutralizing the cloud with salt, which will ground it. XL8 does so by sucking it into a vortex centered at a group of salt trucks used to clear the roads. Vance once again attempts to destroy S.A.M., but it has enough leftover power to knock Vance back and undergo yet another transformation.
Ben uses the victory as an attempt to get to the convention, but Max refuses. As Max's favorite band begins to play, S.A.M. returns, this time a mixture of cement and its other attempts at weather control. Ben becomes Fourarms and starts to fight with the monster, clearly outmatched by the robot's control over wind. This time around, Gwen and Max notice a strange humming coming from the robot, which conveniently matches the music Max's favorite band was playing not minutes before. They surmise that a tune at the opposite frequency will short out the robot, and set the amplifiers accordingly. Handing two guitars to Fourarms, Max quickly explains what to do. Ben eventually succeeds in shorting out the robot, even after a poorly timed reversion to human form.
After the place is cleaned up, Max's band plays an encore for the fans, and Ben discovers that they aren't half bad. In return, Max agrees to take him to the convention.
