Monster Trucks (game)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monster Trucks is an online game created by StimuNation for the Miniclip website. In this game the player takes command of the Miniclip.com monster truck to complete five levels with various objectives to complete from jumping buses to winning races. To assist you in completion of the levels, you can activate tire spikes to give you extra traction.

[edit] Levels

  1. Canyon Ride - Considered to be the Tutorial level, this level lets you learn the basics of the game.
  2. Assault Course - This marks the beginning of the stadium levels, and is comprised of a simple obstacle course.
  3. Obstacle Course - Very similar to the Assault Course, just with more obstacles.
  4. Bus Jump - The last of the stadium levels, the object here is to run over all of the buses and cars to complete the round.
  5. Doomsday Race - In the final level you race "The Destroyer", a van-type monster truck similar to the popular Grave Digger truck in the USA. This level's setting is similar to Canyon Ride, except Doomsday Race is at night during a thunderstorm. You do not have to beat The Destroyer to win the level, but by doing so you gain 1,000 bonus points.

[edit] Criticism

Monster Trucks is very similar to Miniclip's Trial Bike series of games, which feature real-time physics and many difficult obstacles to carefully navigate and climb over. Monster Trucks emulates this very well, but is littered with several glitches that may hinder gameplay such as:

  • Not being able to collect coins when traveling fast.
  • The wheels of your truck becoming inverted, thus making you drive upside down.
  • Being able to jump OVER the Finish of the Bus Jump level into a tower of hay bales.

Aside from programming bugs, the final race against The Destroyer is nearly impossible since physics do not seem to apply to your opponent.

Despite the problems in the game, Monster Trucks stayed on Miniclip's Top 10 for several months.

[edit] Monster Trucks 2

With the early success of Monster Trucks on Miniclip, StimuNation received several client inquiries to do a follow up. They finally accepted to do Monster Trucks Unleashed for Candystand which is regarded as onofficial sequel to Monster Trucks. It addressed all the aforementioned flaws, offered a massively improved physics engine and also introduced a tool named Beast Builder which allowed players to customize the shape of the truck.
