Monna Vanna (opera)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Monna Vanna (Russian:Монна Ванна) is an unfinished opera by Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943) after Maurice Maeterlinck.
The first act was completed in a vocal score. However, Maeterlinck then refused to give permission to the composer to use his text. The act contains imposing and beautiful tenor arias which can be heard, superbly sung by Belgian dramatic tenor, Fernand Ansseau on the Preiser series Lebendige Vergangenheit.
