[edit] About Monkey D. Dragon

Monkey D. Dragon (commonly known as Dragon) first appears after a lightning bolt suddenly destroys the gallows where Luffy was to be executed by Buggy the Clown and then saves Luffy from being captured by Captain Smoker. When he saved Luffy from Smoker, a mighty gust of eerie wind swept through Loguetown. It is undetermined whether or not he was the cause behind the gust of wind or the lighting; however, the story leads to believe there is more to him than it seems. Many fans believe he did indeed cause the unusual wind, (in the manga, he yells "wind blast!" or "storm!" as it happens, further supporting this idea) and that he may also be a Devil Fruit user (a Wind Logia Fruit is a common suggestion), but none of these has been confirmed so far in the story. He was revealed to be Luffy's father by Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp, and his true name is Monkey D. Dragon.

He left Luffy to be raised by his grandfather Garp, whom he apparently keeps in contact with. Luffy himself wasn't aware his father was Dragon or that he had a father for that matter. In Loguetown, Dragon expressed satisfaction in his son becoming a pirate.

He is the seventh character to possess the initial of D. Due to his extremely rare appearances in the series, his personality remains almost completely a mystery, save for an apparent love for freedom and belief in fate, which are traits of a D. Unlike other members of his family, or Ds for that matter, he looks stern and serious.

[edit] History

Dragon is one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece to this date, having only been mentioned or made appearances only a few times. He is mentioned once as a revolutionary in the flashback of the Drum Island Arc of six years ago (chapter 142 of the manga). In that flashback, it was told that during the World Government's meeting at Marie Joie, it was said that in a few years, he would be a threat to the world. He seeks the destruction of the World Government (he has been stated to hold enough power to do so), and has already caused many nations to fall by initiating revolutions. He has been labeled the "World's Worst Criminal" by the World Government, and seems to be outstandingly powerful. However, the government has absolutely no clue who he truly is and work on the barest fragments alone. He is also extremely infamous, as shown by the fact that most of Luffy's crew knows and fears his name.

In chapter 432, his full name, along with the fact that he is Luffy's father, is revealed. Also it revealed that Dragon's father (and Luffy's grandfather) is none other than the legendary marine, Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp. Luffy's response was blank, he was not aware who Dragon was, nor that he had a father.

According to chapter 440, Dragon's main headquarters is located at Paladego, an island on the Grand Line (probably in the New World). His army has just overthrown Saint Reia in South Blue, and according to one of the troops, they are planning to move to North Blue next. Dragon sees Luffy's wanted poster, and comments that the time they meet will come soon .
