Monica Lierhaus

Monica Lierhaus (born 25 May 1970 in Hamburg) is a German sports journalist.

In 1989 she passed the Abitur at Charlotte-Paulsen-Gymnasium in Hamburg, afterwards she studied Anglistics and German literature at Hamburg University and attended a practical in the editorial-office of the Sport-Bild magazine. Furthermore she worked as a freelancer for Radio Hamburg and Klassik-Radio (German radio stations). In 1992 she dropped out of her studies and became an anchorwoman moderating the SAT1 Regional-Nachrichten HH.

Between 1994 and 1996 she worked as subeditor for SAT1 and made reports both at home and abroad.

  • 1999-2003: different soccer/tennis magazines on the pay-TV network Premiere.

In 2004 she became one of the anchors of the Sportschau (Bundesliga magazine on ARD) on Saturday, where round-ups of the games of the day are presented. She hosts this show alternating with Reinhold Beckmann and Gerhard Delling. She also anchors live reports of soccer matches (for example DFB-Pokal). Furthermore, Lierhaus has been reporting for ARD at some major sporting events in recent years (Tour de France, 2004 Summer Olympics, 2006 Winter Olympics).
