Monferno (モウカザル Mōkazaru?, Moukazaru in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the Pokémon media franchise. Monferno are famous for evolving from one of the three species of Pokémon the player can choose at the start of their adventure in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the series. The purpose of Monferno in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[1]
The name Monferno is a portmanteau of the words monkey and inferno. The Japanese name Moukazaru is a portmanteau of the Japanese words for roaring flames (猛火 mōka?) and monkey (猿 saru?). The pronunciation of zaru instead of saru is a phonetic shift made when saru is used in a compound.

Biological characteristics
Much of Monferno's hair is a bright orange color. Monferno now has a tail, unlike its previous form Chimchar. Its tail is similar to those of Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard due to the flames at the tips. This flame is often used as a weapon. When threatened, Monferno increases the size of its flame in order to appear larger than it really is, which is useful in scaring off attacking foes. It has white hair around its neck and gold arm bands. The blue-and-red markings on its face are similar to those of a Mandrill, an animal on which Monferno may be based.
In the video games
Monferno is the evolved form of Chimchar and can now learn the move Close Combat at level 36. Monferno can also learn Flare Blitz, a new move that is the Fire-type equivalent to Double-Edge, at Level 49. It can now learn TMs such as Iron Tail and Aerial Ace.
Monferno has above-average Attack, Special Attack and Speed stats for a Stage 1 Pokémon.
It evolves into Infernape at level 36.
