Monbulk is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Its Local Government Area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
Monbulk township and farming area is 40km East of Melbourne. The Aboriginal name Monbulk translates as 'hiding place of the ducklings.' In 1893 a village settlement of 76 ten acre farms was created. The area was well known for being the site of Monbulk Perserving Company later IXL, a jam factory, where Monbulk Jam was produced from locally grown fruit. Today Monbulk is a thriving township with many diversified farms growing fruit, nursery plants and a substantial bulb and cut flower industry for national and international markets.
