Mona Grudt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mona Grudt (born 1971 in Skatval, Norway) a green-eyed redhead, became the first Norwegian to capture the Miss Universe title in 1990. She was the clear favorite from the beginning, winning the interview and swimsuit preliminaries and during the semi-finals, she won all three competitions.

In 1990, major format changes in the pageant caused Mona to be the first Miss Universe to face two rounds of eliminations on finals night. Instead of from a top 10 to a final 5, it became a top 10 to 6 finalists. Then, after a round of questions, the top 6 became a final 3. In any case, Mona breezed through the competition, winning it all. Her runner-ups were Carole Gist of the USA (she is incidentally, the first black woman to ever become Miss USA), and Liseth Mahecha of Colombia.

During her reign, she appeared in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and she was the last Miss Universe to accompany Bob Hope on his USO tour.

Today, Grudt is the editor of the Norwegian wedding magazine Ditt Bryllup (en. Your Wedding).
