Mojo Rib (2003) |
In For Sin (2006) |
From it’s tongue-in-cheek cover to the party-hardy anthems within, Mojo Rib announced itself loudly as one of the strongest voices in new millennium rock, combining classic rock elements with a stripped-down garage rock ethic and some eclectic twists. The hard rock bible Kerrang! hailed the group as "Rock Gods-in-waiting" upon its release, likening the band's sound to "prime AC/DC colliding with Roth-era Van Halen."
Though the album was strong, it was still the sound of a group defining its sound -- "Half-Pipe Raider," "Lowlife" and "Snakebite" are balls-to-the-wall rockers, "Kalifornia Kingsnake" provides a moment of Bad Company-esque groove, while "Daddy Shapeshifter" and the epic 7-minute "Fat Lady With a Gun" are quirky eclectica. The twin-guitar team of Joe Favazza and Drew Simon soars throughout, as does vocalist Jay Sosnicki, whose bawdy lyrics and histrionic vocals rank with those of AC/DC's Bon Scott.
The release of this album saw the departure of original drummer and bassist Castle and Robert Oriol, who were replaced by Michael White and drummer Don McCurdy for the group’s second album, 2006’s In For Sin.
