Mohamud Muse Hersi or "Adde" is the President of Puntland since January 8, 2005. Being a former soldier in Somalia's Major General Siad Barre government. He was previously a local and state governor in Northern Somalia before its civil war. General Adde was also a military attache to China during the mid 1970s to early 1980s. He retired after his stint in China and relocated to Canada where he lived until being elected to office in late 2004. His five-year term will expire in 2009.
