Mohammad Reza Bateni

Mohammad Reza Bateni (persin محمدرضا باطنی): Born 1932 (Isfahan, Iran).Former student of Mark A. K. Halliday, PhD of linguistics from Tehran University, where was an academic member till 1980. He is the first one who has written a modern linguistic analysis of persian language from "scale and category" point of view; named "tosife sakhteman dastoory e zabane Farsi";"description of grammatical structure of persian language" Tehran 1967. He become emeritus from "Tehran University" in 1980 by his own request, to follow his scientific and cultural interests independently. He has published many books in which he has introduced linguistic concepts to lay people. Currently he is a lexicographer, working with his group in "Farhang e Moaser"- a specialist publishing house for dictionaries. "Farhang e Pooya "English-Persian dictionary is his most recent work in collaboration with his assistants there. Beyond this he has written articles in some libertarian journals, and has been an activist for liberty of expression.
