Mogitate Tingle no Barairo Rupee Land (もぎたてチンクルのばら色ルッピーランド Mogitate Chinkuru no Barairo Ruppī Rando?, lit. "Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rose-Colored Rupee Land"), also called Tingle RPG, is a role-playing video game developed by Vanpool and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console. It stars Tingle, a character from several recent The Legend of Zelda video games.

The game was released on September 2, 2006 in Japan and is planned to be released in North America and Europe in 2007. Mogitate Tingle no Barairo Rupee Land is one of the two Tingle-centric games for DS, the other being Tingle's Balloon Fight.

[edit] Overview

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The game starts in the time when Tingle was just an average middle-aged man. One day, a voice echoes throughout his home summoning Tingle to the pond west of his home. There, Rupeeji promises Tingle paradise if he can bring enough rupees, or he can simply return to his normal life. Tingle agrees, and Rupeeji uses his power to transform Tingle into a new form in which rupees become his life source.

Tingle can now travel on his own, venturing back to his home to consult with Pinkle to see what he should try to do next, or venture into the nearby port town. All sorts of vendors are stationed in the port town, and they will buy and sell goods as well as pass along information for a price.

From there, Tingle can proceed to the main islands. Each island has its unique theme and a central puzzle that most be overcome. Solving this puzzle will result in a huge rupee reward and often leading Tingle into a dungeon. Throughout each island are several NPCs who require Tingle's assistance; some will reward the player for his or her efforts, while others are looking to sell Tingle recipes or the island map.

Besides assisting people and solving the puzzles on each island, Tingle can earn huge rupee awards by filling in the map of each island. By circling spots on the map that are incomplete, Tingle will reveal the spots on the map which he can bring back to the old woman in port town. Each spot will earn Tingle rupees, and completing the map will make her buy it for a hefty sum. Once the player sells his or her map, however, he or she loses it unless he or she buy it back.

Each dungeon focuses primariy on basic combat and puzzle solving. Combat in Tingle RPG is nothing like any other Zelda title; the player simply runs into an enemy and then taps them as fast as he or she can with the stylus. The player can chain link several mobs and earn bigger rupee and item rewards, though Tingle loses rupees for taking damage. To counter Tingle's vulnerability to rupee loss from battles, he can set out in each island to a small tent and pay a bodyguard to assist him.

Securing a bodyguard is part of an integral element of the game: negotiating. Every bit of info, every bit of assistance the player requires, every item without a set price he or she wishes to purchase requires him or her to gamble with his or her money. The player can tend to get a good idea of what the person is expecting by reviewing his or her history of purchases in recent areas, but if he or she underpays, he or she will lose the chance or outright have to pay that money without receiving anything in return. On the other hand, overpaying will result in the player not having enough rupees to reach the next island. Additionally, some NPCs will wish to pay Tingle a reward. The player get only a few chances to name a decent price before they refuse to pay. Players must have a certain amount of rupees to toss into the pond in order to advance to the next island.

Dungeons also contain final bosses which each require the player to use the stylus control in a unique way. Defeating them will result in rupees scattering over the arena, which Tingle can then collect. Boss battles typically result in the biggest rupee pay-offs and they also contain a gem that is required to reach the final boss of the game. Thus, even if the player pays enough rupees into the pond to reach the final area, Tingle will be forced to collect all 5 gems to complete the game.

The last crucial element to the gameplay is the item and recipe system. Tingle can collect several special items throughout the game which can decorate his home as well as help unlock a special bonus after completing the game. Some items are just normal ingredients, which can then be used to make recipes. Recipes are made in the boiling pot in Tingle's home, and players use the stlus to "stir" the mix within a time limit. Recipes can then be used to aid other NPCs or be sold to NPCs for a good sum. Several times throughout the title, the player will need recipes to advance in certain areas.

The final boss battle is against Rupeeji himself, in which the players learns Tingle was deceived by him all along. The battle requires the player to use Tingle's rupees as projectile weapons, making the battle rather difficult if the player do not have very many at that point. The portion utilizes the stylus to shoot Tingle's rupees rapidly while avoiding damage from Rupeeji's own projectiles and himself. If the player has completed the game 100%, her or she can change Tingle's wardrobe, among other things.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] English localization

Following an article of Tingle RPG in Nintendo Power, on August 2, 2006, Nintendo of America opened a survey among its members to inquire about their interest for an English version of the game.[1]

On January 4th, 2007, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed an English release in Europe for 2007[3], while Electronic Gaming Magazine confirmed an American release in 2007 in issue 213, early February.[1]

On February 14th, 2007, Official Nintendo Magazine posted the first English review of the title, giving it a 76% and revealing the game would be released in the UK in March 2007, under the name Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland[2].

However, according to Eiji Aonuma at GDC 2007, Tingle RPG has no scheduled release outside of Japan. [4] Thus, all claims of an English version are currently under scrutiny.
