Mogami Yoshimori (最上義守?) (1521-June 19, 1590) was the son of Mogami Yoshiharu. When Mogami Yoshisada died during the year of 1523, Yoshimori succeeded him as the new lord of Mogami, even at a very young age. Yoshimori then on controlled the Yamagata Castle fighting against many clans such as the: Uesugi, Date, and so on to expand the Mogami domain.
Yoshimori assisted Date Tanemune in the Tenbun no ran, then later on having his own daughter, Yoshiko married to the father of the famed Date Masamune, Terumune. Yoshimori indicated that he wished to name a young son as his heir by bypassing Mogami Yoshiaki. Afterwards, loyal retainers under Yoshiaki threw Yoshimori into confinement, and forced the succession of Yoshiaki.
