Moebius is a video game character in the Legacy of Kain series. Throughout the series, he has been voiced by Richard Doyle. In the early stages of production, Moebius was known as "Bridenal."

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Moebius was born long before the start of the first game. He was selected by fate to become the Guardian of the Pillar of Time. In that era, the Pillars were still under vampire control and the vampire guardians took to turning new Pillar guardian into vampires before they could take up their charge.

Before the vampires could turn him, Moebius first heard the voice of The Elder God. The Elder God convinced Moebius that the vampires were a curse and instructed him on how to defeat them. Moebius came into possession of staff that had the power to incapacitate vampires. Then, along with Mortanius, rose up against the vampire guardians, killing them and taking the new human guardians under their protection.

As Guardian of the Pillar of Time, Moebius was able to see into the flow of time, effectively giving him a certain level of omniscience. Moebius was also capable of summoning objects and individuals from various time periods. With these powers, Moebius was able to set events in motion that could potentially alter history for his own benefit. Moebius would, at times, take the guise of the Oracle of Nosgoth, a soothsayer who dispensed predictions to travelers.

As history drew closer to Kain's birth, Moebius knew that he would be destined to replace Ariel and could possibly restore the Pillars to the vampires. To change the timeline, Moebius gave the Soul Reaver to William the Just. The young king would wield the weapon for years, thus turning him into a powerful tyrant, the Nemesis. Next, Moebius guided the young Kain to Willendorf in the hopes he would confront the invincible Nemesis. Along the way, he made sure that Kain came into possession of the Soul Reaver and one of his Timestreaming Devices.

Allowing Kain to travel back in time and assassinate William, Moebius was able to orchestrate a genocidal hatred of vampires in Nosgoth. The young Kain confronted Moebius and killed him, thus making him the sixth Circle member killed on Kain's journey, but the Timestreamer was resurrected by the Elder God and ordered to come to the Citadel of the Ancients.

Once arriving there, Moebius, believing that the future version of Kain was dead, was taken by surprise and killed by the vampire. As he passed into the spectral realm, Moebius' soul was devoured by Raziel, but not before the wraith purified Moebius' sight, showing him the true, horrible face of the Elder God.

[edit] Trivia

  • Moebius is the only other character besides Kain that has appeared in some form in every Legacy of Kain game. Moebius appeared physically in Blood Omen, Soul Reaver I & II and Defiance. A statue of Moebius appeared in the Eternal Prison in Blood Omen II. Arguably, Raziel, as the ravenous spirit inhabiting the Soul Reaver, has appeared in all five games as well, although in different forms.
