Modesto Junior College

The Modesto Junior College is a community college located in Central Valley's Modesto, California. It often called by its acronym, MJC. Its current president is Dr. Richard Rose and its sports teams are referred to as the MJC Pirates.
MJC is regarded as one of the best community colleges in the state based on student's High School GPA and transfer percentage. The rate of students who transfer to four-year universities is among the best in the nation.[citation needed]

- The Math department has won the AMATYC community college mathematics competition numerous times.
- The Science department features professors from the best Universities in the nation, which help Bio and Chem majors transfer to the best four-year programs offered in the nation.
- Its Nursing program has earned a great reputation around the state, and its forensic team has beaten four-year universities in National competitions.

Modesto Junior College offers Associate degrees. For an idea of the size of Modesto Junior College, the school boasts 12,909 degree-seeking undergrads. The campus at Modesto Junior College features the Suburban setting, Small city (50,000 - 249,999) and Commuter campus. Incidentally, Modesto Junior College is located 90 miles from San Francisco. Additionally, the university has many unique facilities such as natural history museum.

In the year 1985 an asbestos remediation program was conducted on the College, in which asbestos containing pipe lagging was removed and disposed of with proper manifests at off site locations(Earth Metrics, 1989). Sometime prior to 1989 at the College, there was an unauthorized release of diesel fuel to the environment, with an unknown quantity of fuel being discharged.
