Mońki is a town in northeastern Poland and, as of 1999, is situated in the Podlasie Voivodeship. From 1975 to 1998 it was part of the Białystok Voivodeship. It is the capital of Mońki County.

Mońki is a very young town - actually, it arised at the beginning of 20th century. It owes its existence to the railway station between Białystok (the capital of Podlasie Voivodeship) and Ełk. Mońki got the city rights (pl. prawa miejskie) in 1965. Then, the town was resided by about 3 thousand people. Now in the town there live 11 thousand inhabitians. Lots of them went abroad to earn money for their families (especially to USA and Belgium - Mońki is famous in Poland for it).

Mońki - that's a very quiet and peaceful town. Everyone knows everyone and the people are very friendly. Near Mońki there are one of the greatests swamps in Europe - The Biebrza River Swamps and in 1993 the government awarded The Biebrza National Park to preserve the unique nature. It is a great prop for rare birds like battalion, which is a symbol of BNP. It's really worth to come there!
