Here is the text of my block message:

You can email Cyde or one of the other administrators to discuss the block. You may also add "((unblock))" to your user talk page (which you can edit even while blocked, unless it is protected) to request unblocking. If you believe that our blocking policy was violated, you may discuss the block publicly on the WikiEN-l mailing list. Please include "Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Mnerd". The reason given for Mnerd's block is: "Sockpuppet used for voting purposes"." when requesting an unblock as an administrator can not help you without that information, they might also need your IP address (69.231.169.88), so give that too if possible.

Well, I guess you are perfectly free to not believe what you choose.

I FREELY admit that all of my edits are on templates for deletion. I said as much in my User talk page. I registered SPECIFICALLY because I don't like your crusade. That certainly does NOT mean that I am a sock puppet. It means I was motivated enough by what you are doing to register tonight to speak up against it.

The fact that you believe I must be a sock puppet because I disagree with you, and "refuse to believe" that I joined specifically to add a voice against your actions, speaks volumes. Mnerd 07:03, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I don't see "edits only templates for deletion" as a reason to suspect sock puppetry. Please do point me to a page if I am wrong. Certainly you need something a little stronger than that? Mnerd 07:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

The more I look into this, the more unjust this appears. So far, I have been unable to find anything to suggest that (1) there is some sort of prerequisite before you can vote on a TFD, or (2) that anyone who doesn't edit normal pages, but rather just TFD pages, should be considered a sock puppet. It would be one thing if the admin making this accusation were impartial, but Cyde certainly has reason to silence my vote and is in no position to make this call. Mnerd 07:22, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I now see that the admin who said "denied" above was not, in fact, Cyde. If both Cyde and "freakofnurture" believe I must be a sock puppet, then I maybe I'm missing something. Can someone please clue me in as to what I need to do (how can I "prove" myself, for lack of a better phrase) before I can vote on the TFDs without fear of being blocked? Or can someone just tell me that it's not allowed to only vote on TFDs without editing anything else? (By the way, I have in fact edited a few encyclopedia entries, but have always done so anonymously. Again, I registered tonight specifically because it looked like you needed to register to be able to "vote" at TFD).

I also submit that the speed with which Cyde jumped to his conclusions makes it seem like he hasn't read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Controversial_blocks

This is a quote from Cyde at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:RCU  : "See user contributions - about 60 edits to Tfd and nothing else whatsoever."

Again, the reason I have only those edits is that I just registered tonight! And I only registered because it seemed the proper thing to do to vote at TFD.

To prove you have the best interest of Wikipedia at heart, the best thing you can do is edit other articles now you're not anonymous anymore.

Votes on deletion discussions by newbies are routinely discounted, because they often don't have Wikipedia's best interest at heart and only vote to show their opinion. You seem to be voting because you dislike Cyde nominating those templates. Voting should be about the template/article/image/etc. not the nominator. You're free to continue contributing to such discussions, but it's best to focus on explaining the usefulness of the template being discussed rather than discussing Cyde's motives. Leaving that to seasoned wikipedians will also do wonders in keeping you out of trouble. - Mgm|^(talk) 09:25, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

• Thanks, MacGyverMagic. Your voice of reason really helps balance out what I believe to be the unfair accusation that Cyde made about me. I appreciate your actions as well as your words.

• Also, for the record, I have in fact made edits before. See the April 27 8:59 edit to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beachmont . It's just that I did that anonymously (I didn't feel I needed a username to do that, or any of my edits, until tonight).
