Mixxx is an open source digital DJ’ing program designed for both professional and semi-professional users. It allows an individual to mix tunes together just like a DJ does with a pair of real turntables. It provides support for a headphone cue to allow the DJ to preview and beatmatch the incoming track before it is mixed in. Mixxx also has the ability to apply an LFO filter to a live mix.
[edit] Overview
The project was started in early 2001 as one of the first digital DJ systems. Today Mixxx includes many features common to digital DJ solutions, but also some unique features: It's licensed under the GPL and runs on all major desktop operating systems. Furthermore Mixxx has a number of key features to help the DJ in the live mix: Beat estimation, parallel visual displays, and support for many DJ input controllers.
In early 2007, Mixxx 1.5.0 was released, bringing some major new features including waveform summary displays and support for pitch independent time stretch. Mixxx 1.5 is currently available for download from mixxx's homepage.
[edit] Standards
Mixxx can interface with OSS, ALSA, or Jack to output the audio and it reads most popular sound formats, including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Wave and Aiff.
For communication Mixxx supports MIDI and standard input devices such as Joysticks and mice.
