Mitchell High School (Nebraska)

Mitchell High School is located in Mitchell, Nebraska. In the school year 2005-2006 the school had a student population of about 305 students in grades 7-12. Mitchell High School is a member of Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA). The socioeconomic status of the students is low-middle to middle income. The principal is Heath Peters.
Their mascot is the Tiger and their school colors are orange and black.
They followed the same block scheduling plan that was pioneered in Scottsbluff County by Gering High School. Block Scheduling uses four different classes that alternate every day. Making a total of 8 classes. A ninth class is usually study hall and occurs at the end of the day. Fridays are also half days, getting out at 12:30 PM. Classes on a normal day are 90 Min long except for Study Hall which is 45 min. Lunch is 45 min. On Friday the classes are 45 minutes long, and the study hall is 30 Min. On Monday through Thursday lunch starts at the elementary cafeteria at 11:05 and runs until 11:49. On Friday lunch starts at the cafeteria at the elementary 12:30 PM and ends at 1:00 PM.
Recently though they have changed their schedule to a new version of block scheduling. There are two 45 min classes in the morning, which are the same every day, then a 90 min class that alternates every day, next is lunch, then two 90 min alternating classes, and finally a 45 min Study Hall. The school day starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:45 PM on Monday - Thursday. On Friday it still is a half day as before.
Their activities include:football, volleyball, girls' golf, cross-country, girls' & boys' basketball, wrestling, one-acts, speech, musical, marching band, show choir, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Quiz Bowl, NHS (National Honor Society), track, boys golf & cheerleading.
