- Conditional Keep - if you really believe Wikipedia isn't a place for social networking, get rid of Esperanza and everything as well. Conditional keep, if it's moved into userspace. Keep it out of wikispace otherwise delete. – Chacor 05:00, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it's a bad idea to get rid of Esperanza, or at least get rid of the incredibly diversionary aspects of it. But we can start by getting rid of these. —Doug Bell talk•contrib 09:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- If Esperanza ends up being deleted, should your vote be interpreted as a delete? —Doug Bell talk•contrib 08:56, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Should have no bearing, this MFD should close earlier than the one on Esperanza. But in terms of my !vote with no bearing on closing times, then yes, as unlikely as it seems at this point Esperanza will be deleted, if that MFD is sucessful this !vote should be taken (post-closure, as it stands) to be a delete. – Chacor 09:13, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete all per related MfD's. Intererested Wikipedians can organize gaming tournaments on other (more appropriate) web sites. No need to clutter up our project space with the games themselves. Eluchil404 08:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete all but not just because it's a game. It's a game with little to no relationship with article contribution and is far past a demonstration. There are grey areas for "community" but this crosses the line. Wikipedia can have a reasonable level of social interaction, but this is just silly. Esperanza is not a factor in this deletion. -- Ned Scott 10:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete all per Ned Scott. This is completely unacceptable and this kind of rubbish should have been purged long ago. Moreschi 13:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep. A little competition in Wikipedia is not harmful, besides, it does not cut in on Wikipedia, as I can tell you from personal experience. I find that these game MFDs cut in more to my Wikipedia time than any of these games. Call me a crazy inclusionist, but this is where I stand. bibliomaniac15 Review? 19:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- I also have trouble swallowing the idea that games are social networking. What is social networking? According to the TechEncyclopedia, a social networking site is "A Web site that provides a virtual community for people interested in a particular subject or just to "hang out" together."[1]. Most emphasized is the effect on communication, not on competition or games, but mere socialization. Other websites that define social networking is Online Cyber Safety, which basically states the aformentioned. Or how about Computer Hope's definition: "a web site on the Internet that brings people together in a central location to talk, gossip, share ideas, share interests, make new friends, etc." In none of these definitions are games mentioned. I don't want to be labeled as some right wing extremist, but in short, I really can't see how WP:NOT applies into this. bibliomaniac15 Review? 00:14, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep. At the very least, wait until we're done our fecking tournament. You'd think that people would have the common courtesy to give notice on something like this before putting it up for deletion. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 02:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- The AfD banner is the notice. Since you're here, apparently it was effective in reaching people interested in this. If you want to know why I didn't add the banner to all 64 subpages, well that's a bit more time than I thought this merited. —Doug Bell talk•contrib 02:32, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep all until tournament is complete, then userfy or delete I'm not a participant in this, but it seems a fairly harmless diversion. And deleting it before the tournament is over seems a little harsh to me. Probably things like this should be in userspace, or off-wiki, but still, a lot of people are in the middle of a game, let them finish it.Dina 13:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep What happened to community-building? Abeg92 13:57, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep While I agree it is getting out of hand, I agree with the above comment about letting us finish the current tournament. If the argument comes about that the tournament "hasn't been active," I'd probably say that it was my fault, as I am the main force behind keeping tournament going as planned, on schedule. However, due to current issues with the amount of work I have had recently, I haven't been as active as I have been in the past (check my contributions). If anything, I'd say that this tournament (and other related gaming aspects of Wikipedia) keeps users interested in the project by forcing them to come back every day or so to check the progress of their game. Games with stringent time limits force new and old users alike to log on to Wikipedia. Once logged on, they are more likely to contribute in article space. Maybe I'm very delusional, but if consensus is to delete, I'd appreciate it if we could at least finish the current tournament. Thanks for your time. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 17:30, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep and Userfy. Even though I am currently participating, I recognise that it shouldn't be in Wikipedia-space. It would probably be best if any action was withheld until after the current tournament's completion. TewfikTalk 04:54, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- If it's something that shouldn't take place on Wikipedia then we shouldn't wait for the tournament to finish. (it's like saying, let me finish killing this guy because I'm not done killing him). If it is, then you don't have to worry. The tournament status shouldn't be a factor. -- Ned Scott 05:20, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

- Comment Well, I'm not sure I see the analogy between killing someone and playing a game. The people involved weren't deliberately doing anything destructive. There's only one compelling reason to wait until the tournament is over, but I think it's a big one: to be nice. Dina 12:04, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete - I'm all for fun & games, but jeez, this is out of control. How many pages are up there??? Spawn Man 07:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC) P.S. I'll only support deletion if the admin who closes it closes it sadly (preferrably crying his/her heart out...)
Keep i love this i understand for delation but come on have a heart lets us have fun pleaseOo7565 08:21, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete. Some humor and gaming is acceptable, especially when it comes in a manner that indirectly assists the project: link-hopping games are useful, for example, because they can lead people to obscure or dead-end pages and often encourage article improvements. This, however, does not, and so should go. However, I'm willing to allow this current round to conclude (providing it does so in a reasonable timely manner -- no stalling, folks!). My justification for this is two-fold. First, as Dina noted, it is just being nice. And second, since the horde of subpages clearly shows this has gone on for a long time, I think we'd all benefit from avoiding the appearance of ex post facto invalidation. But when its done this time ... its done. Serpent's Choice 12:22, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- New Concept. Idea to salvage H-man on WP (not just tournament): Possibly have the picture be from an article that needs improvement, and at the end of each game, we do just that. Abeg92 10:51, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Delete, doesn't belong in project space because it isn't about the project at all. Doesn't belong in user space because wikipedia is not a free web host. Building friendships and goodwill among editors is great, but we shouldn't keep things around that have no connection to the building of an encyclopedia. - I'd be curious just how much corn-grinding these oxen are doing. What's the average ratio of mainspace to non-mainspace edits among tournament participants? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 02:08, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- The number of edits to this game per user would likely be 2 per day max. It's hangman, afterall—it's not like we set times to come on and have crazy hangmanfests. └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 14:20, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

- Keep - For the same reasons as Wikipedia:Esperanza should be kept. Allowing richer bonds to develop between Wikipedians is a good thing. Pages like this one strengthen our sense of community. After all, in addition to being an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is a community. The Transhumanist 07:55, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- What's interesting is that no one can seem to prove that it does significantly help anything, or that the same effect can't be done off site. -- Ned Scott 08:46, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep of course it helps. The fact that there are 64 pages, all organised and used regualy means many people must be using them and getting something out of it. Think outside the box 09:18, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
