Hrmpf. I was lazy just once and get a notice? Damn. And you, sir, please revise your knowledge of posting new messages - the <div> you used was placed in the same line as the == ... == header and was not rendered/recognized properly. Happy editing, Миша13 00:45, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Is the source code for User:EssjayBot II/III available?

Hello. I'm interested in running a script similar to User:Werdnabot's archiver and that of User:EssjayBot II/III; I've been told by User:Essjay that you wrote the archival code for his bots. While I'm currently planning on writing my own code to do the job, I was wondering if the code for Essjay's bots was available, and if so, whether I could use that as a starting place for my own bot script? Thanks. Mike Peel 10:42, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I have placed the source code in User:MiszaBot/Source. It runs on the pywikipedia framework. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions - I wrote it while still in the stage of learning Python, so the code might be a bit obfuscated. :-) Миша13 11:51, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. :) Mike Peel 12:00, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Parser function

Hi Misza, I've started to update {{Templatesnotice}} and wanted to include the syntax for your Sig add on, but cannot get it to work. I thought it was {{subst:PAGENAME|Article|And this is some extra text.|n}}

Could you set me right please, oh and happy new year and all that.

Very cool userpage!

Do you mind if I borrow/steal some of the code for my userpage? I'll make enough changes that it won't be exactly like yours; I just like the collapsible box design. Let me know here, I'll watch the page. Thanks! -- weirdoactor t|c 20:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Feel free. It's a free wiki after all. :-) Most code is transcluded on various subpages and I also made the code of the main page barely readable (see why!). :-P But feel free to ask where are the specific elements located. Миша13 20:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Esperanza

Would you like to see Esperanza return. Geo. 01:02, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Huh? It has been shut down only recently and you want a return already? Give it some time to see who really cares. Out of 700+ members, I've seen no more that, say 20-30 participating in the Overhaul (see also uncyclopedia:Nobody cares); no more than 50 in the MfD. Some seem to have noticed post factum (probably because userboxes & banners started to disappear from their pages) - this proves that the Esperanza membership has completely devaluated itself (i.e. means nearly nothing). Also, to the recent over-bloated-bureaucratic shape it has taken, I say a decisive no. Let's have some time to think things over. Wikipedia can live without Esperanza. My defcon template

Yeah, I know. :) Unforunately, the general scheme we adopted was to use digits 0-5 instead of words (since the scale was re-done recently and levels changed their meanings). Миша13 14:38, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
True, but it's backward compatible. :) AzaToth 14:40, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Do not deleted sockpuppet-tagged userpages

I have just restored user:GoOdCoNtEnT, User:Anecdotesarecool, user:Johnnyp2000, user:Michael Woods, and user:Ffffffffffffffff333333 - all of which had been tagged and sockpuppets and all of which you had deleted. Do not delete these, or any other sockpuppet tagged userpages, again. Raul654 22:25, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I am not touching sockpuppet-tagged userpages. And now, none of the pages you mentioned are tagged as such and are therefore candidates for deletion on my next run. While at it, what's the point in tagging blatant WP:U violations such as Ffffffffffffffff333333 anyway? Миша13 23:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Here is the incident report - they're all sockpuppets of Goodcontent. Raul654 19:30, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
You can't possibly expect me to read all of AN/I. Just remember to tag them with proper templates (these were lying around untouched for a month) - I don't touch pages with the word "sock" on them (among a few others). Cheers, :) Миша13 19:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorter

Do you still keep User:Misza13/Scripts/Watchlist sorter working? It seems like a really good idea to me, but it doesn't seem to work. I see you haven't updated it in a while though, so maybe that's the problem. Just wondering. :) - cohesion 22:17, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it should work fine. It's not updated, because it's been working fine for me for all those months, never failing. What browser/OS configuration are you on? - this might help me track down the problem. Миша13 22:22, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, maybe I screwed something up :) I'm on current mac os and current firefox. I put it here User:Cohesion/monobook.js. It doesn't seem to break anything, my watchlist just looks like it always has, maybe something important is commented out? - cohesion 00:47, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, the script is self-contained and shouldn't require any external functions. It also doesn't seem to be commented out. Furthermore, I have copied your entire monobook into mine and it works. :/ Only thing that comes to my mind is some caching problems (did you do a hard refresh?) or OS-specific ones. In the latter case, I won't be able to help much. Миша13 10:15, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Hm, I'll try it on some other platforms and let you know. Thanks for trying mine out on yours. :D - cohesion 15:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I can't get it to work on windows under firefox 2.0.0.1 or internet explorer 7. Also doesn't work on Mac with safari. I removed al the other scripts I have also just to test. Maybe I'm thinking it does something other than what it is supposed to do? I was under the impression that it would seperate out the name spaces and display them all rather than have the dropdown. At this point it seems more likely that I am completely misunderstanding the goal rather than it not working. - cohesion 16:23, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Normally, when you visit your watchlist, edits are grouped by days, ordered by time of edit. With the sorter installed, edits within each day are supposed to be additionally grouped by namespaces (while retaining the timely order within a namespace). How many pages do you have on your watchlist? Maybe there's not enough of them for the effect to manifest itself? Миша13 16:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that's how I thought it should work. I have 200 something, across all namespaces. Who knows. - cohesion 17:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, here's how it should look like: [1] Миша13 17:09, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar from WP:UW

The Working Man's Barnstar
I award this barnstar to Misza13 for your help and assistance in getting the WikiProject user warnings to the review phase, and to let you know your work has been appreciated. Khukri (talk . contribs) 22:38, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Some stuff about my user page.

Can you give me some pointers on it? For one thing, can you help me install a proper status switcher? I made a userbox and it's pretty convenient, but when I heard about yours I checked out the page for it, and it seems kind of complicated from my perspective. Anyway please help me in that area! --SuperLuigi31 01:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, as instructed on User:Misza13/Scripts/Status switcher, do the following:

'''<div style="border: 1px solid black; background: white; float: right; position: relative; top: -30px; padding: 5px">SuperLuigi31's status: {{ #switch: {{{1}}}
 | in=<span style="color: green;">IN</span>
 | busy=<span style="color: #FFAA00;">BUSY</span>
 | out=<span style="color: red;">OUT</span>
}}
</div>'''
  • Create a page User:SuperLuigi31/Status and put the code {{User:SuperLuigi31/StatusTemplate|in}} there. Now you should have a fully functional switcher - just put {{User:SuperLuigi31/Status}} on your main userpage (or wherever you want it) and it will display your status. To change it, just visit User:SuperLuigi31/Status and change "in" to "busy" or "out". This can be do by hand or...
  • ...visit User:SuperLuigi31/monobook.js, put {{subst:User:Misza13/Scripts/Status switcher}} there and save. Then purge you browser's cache. Three links (named "in", "busy" and "out") should appear in the upper right corner of every page (besides the "logout" button) - click them to see what they do.

Once done, you can go back to User:SuperLuigi31/StatusTemplate and edit it to adjust how the status display should look like (by default it's just an ugly white box with the text "SuperLuigi31's status: IN/BUSY/OUT" in different colors).

Good luck & tell me if you have any problems. Миша13 10:40, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Well... I have purged my cache a few times using the instructons at WP:PURGE, however I can't find the IN/BUSY/OUT links up there... --SuperLuigi31 14:31, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot about one more function, the addlilink(). I hope you don't mind that I have added it to you monobook to speed things up. If it doesn't show up immediately now, do one more purge and the links should show up. Миша13 16:55, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!!--SuperLuigi31 19:29, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Status switcher script

Someone just stole your idea and posted it to the Community Portal :D – Gurch 12:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Not really. That one was developed (albeit at some beta stage) even before mine. However, I find it overly complicated (with xmlhttprequests etc) and un elegant. Mine is simple and it's only one short function. :) Миша13 12:57, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

"High risk" templates

Hi Misza13. Has there been any consensus on all of the protections you've been making lately? Could you please point me to the discussion. In particular, I don't see why WikiProject templates like {{WikiProject California}} need to be protected and I think it will discourage WikiProject participation if these sort of things are done needlessly. Thanks. Mike Dillon 18:47, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello.
  1. Your template is transcluded on over 10'000 pages. Highly transcluded templates are both a tasty target for vandals and a risk to Wikipedia's stability (as proven by yesterday's outage caused mainly by some template experiments on eswiki) - please see WP:HRT.
  2. Can you provide any reason why that paricular template should be edited? It's in a stable version and should be put on talk pages of articles, not extensively edited. Non-admins may request edits to protected pages by using the {{editprotected}} tag on the talk page.
I hope you understand. Regards, Миша13 19:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I understand, I just think it's unfortunate. I don't think the vandal target argument makes sense for most talk page templates, especially WikiProject templates. However, the job queue argument stands. I've looked into restructuring the way the job queue works to not reprocess duplicate entries for the same article, but I never went anywhere with the code. As for necessary changes, User:BlankVerse tweaks the template fairly regularly, but it is nothing high priority. I'm more worried about the lag time on protected template requests with the hugely increased number of protected templates. Mike Dillon 20:13, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
We haven't actually increased the number by that much. About 60 more templates have been fully protected, there were many more than that protected already. Also, a lot of these should hardly need to be edited at all; many of them haven't been edited in months. Others are formatting templates or messages for "tagging" things; these really need consensus before a change is made, so as changes should be proposed on the talk page anyway, adding {{editprotected}} shouldn't be too much of a burden. Most protected edit requests at the moment are to articles that have been protected, usually due to edit warring, so even a big increase in the number of edit requests for templates shouldn't make too much difference – Gurch 21:24, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Iff you are going to protect {{WikiProject California}}, then add {{protected template}} to it so that it shows up in Category:Protected templates. If protected templates are not being tagged, then that category probably greatly underrepresents the number of templates that are protected. For example, it looks like at least 1/3rd of the templates listed at Wikipedia:List of indefinitely protected pages# High use templates haven't been tagged. As far as I can tell, NONE of the templates listed at Wikipedia:List of protected pages#Other pages has been tagged (roughly 150 templates). BlankVerse 00:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Also look at the pages that have their talk pages tagged with {{Permprot}} a or {{Temprot}} b. My guess is that still doesn't catch quite a few of the templates that have been protected. BlankVerse 01:45, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

It is the whole point in protecting them - so that they are not edited (see the job queue argument above). I may eventually tag all of them, but gradually, one at a time and during hours of low activity. Миша13 08:01, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes. There is one template in particular that I protected which doesn't have {{protected template}}, but is used on so many pages I'm afraid to modify it for fear of what will happen – Gurch 13:01, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Template:TrainsWikiProject

Can you please unprotect this? I would like to remove a redundant category. --NE2 05:21, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Please put {{editprotected}} on the template's talk page, explaining the desired change. An administrator will eventually come and do it. (Or you can explain it here and I'll do it.) Миша13 07:59, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Essjaybot III

Hi. Essjay told me that you wrote this bot so I figured I would forward you my suggestions - 1 (easy) - if creating a new archive page (like it did for me) can it put {{talkarchive}} at the top of the page? - 2 (harder) - autoupdate {{archive box}} if it exists (just the archive name is more than enough). Thanks for the great tool! If it is Perl I can help. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 14:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

The bot is written in Python. Unfortunately, even (1) isn't a trivial feature to add, because the code is right now a big pile of spaghetti, not easily extensible. The bot will need a major rewrite, for which I have little time these weeks (in February, maybe...). Cheers, Миша13 14:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Not a fan of python, I've had to use it a little with some Trac code I've done. Oh well, if looking to re-write please jot that down in your todo list and thanx tons for the tool! — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 22:10, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Inappropriate humor tags

Hi, I noticed you're listed as in charge of the Inappropriate Humor tags on the current, um, warning... unification... project. I've noticed that, at times, there are overlap issues with the first two tags, where you have smiley faces rather than the usual icon. I didn't want to change your tags myself, but I experimented with Preview and I think that if you delete the |left switch from the end of the relevant image tags, the problem is fixed. I'm not certain, but I think that works. Hopefully you'll find this handy - the project looks amazing. Rawling 23:08, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

User Talk page deletions

Hi Misza13,

Back in November you deleted these pages: User_talk:71.204.14.32 and User talk:216.91.92.18, both with the edit summary Temporary Wikipedian userpage not edited for a month. Both the IP addresses have been indef blocked because of spamming for Kellen company (see the WikProject Spam archive for more details). I believe the talk page content would provide context should the blocks need to be reconsidered, or if Kellen attempts to start editing again. Would you consider restoring the pages? Thanks -- Siobhan Hansa 17:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

If you check the block again, you'll see that I have provided a very clear reason - a username block. Please see Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate usernames:
  • Names that consist of random or apparently random sequences of letters and/or numbers or of extended repetition of a particular character.
  • Extremely lengthy names.
Waaaaaaaaaaa (now tell me - how many a's are there?) violates both of these points. Cheers, Миша13 09:11, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

User:Michaelgaughan cleanup

Thanks for fixing that mess. One overkill though...User talk:Michaelgaughan had a viable warning from me in addition to the VP nonsense. Could you revive that page? DMacks 20:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Sure. We're fighting a quickly-spreading disease here and are forced to delete pages that caught the "virus" en masse before the users actually read it. Cheers, Миша13 20:28, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
No worries. DMacks 20:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Just a quick note to thank you for blocking Fatmoogle and cleaning up his mess. As I noted on his talkpage, I noticed what he was doing but didn't know what else to do than warn him. --Mark (Talk | Contribs | Email) 21:30, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

No problem. Actually, in cases like this (spreading a monobook "virus"), the best that can be done is: 1. delete the user's monobook.js and 2. block him (best if done in that order) and 3. delete the pages he created. All that requires a quick admin intervention, so WP:AIV might be the best shot, or IRC, if you use it. Миша13 22:19, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Request talk page restoration

Misza13, is it possible to get User talk:Rememberkigali restored?[2] That particular user was one appearance of a formerly anonymous editor who pops up from time to time to harass me, (see his contribution list) and I would like to have the talk page history available if necessary to show previous warnings and dispute resolution.

This had previously come up on the Administrator's noticeboard - my understanding from that discussion was that we agreed to blank the talk page but leave it so that the history was still available. Should I have tagged the page as something to keep it live?

Thanks! TheronJ 22:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

The main reason why the page was deleted is that it lingered in the CAT:TEMP category for too long. Every now and then, some admins may delete pages fro mthat category, unless they are tagged with some other specific tags, like sockpuppets. If it is an incarnation of another user, you may use one of the Sockpuppet templates. Alternatively, substitute the indef template and remove the category by hand (although this doesn't guarantee that someone won't delete pages via backlinks of the octagon image). Cheers, Миша13 22:34, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, done. (RK is not quite a sockpuppet - he had previously edited from an IP, and he never created another name, so he doesn't quite qualify). TheronJ 00:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Userboxes

Say I want to makes my own userboxes, such as:

This user is a resident of the third planet from Sol (the blue one).

How would I go about that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SuperLuigi31 (talkcontribs) 19:43, 29 January 2007 (UTC).
Just like you did. That looks like a userbox allright. Can you expand what you mean? Миша13 20:10, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
For example, {{Wdefcon|prefix=User:Misza13/}} makes

WikiDefcon 4

Low to normal levels of vandalism from shared IPs and experimenting users.

Vandalism levels back to normal. CAT:CSD still backlogged. —-- Hdt83 Chat 06:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
, so how would I allow other people to use a simple string like that instead of a large array of formatting lines? Like I could make that userbox I made go to {{userbox|user:SuperLuigi31/templates/earth}} or something, right? How would I do that? --SuperLuigi31 20:58, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
If I understand you correctly now, what you want to do is edit User:SuperLuigi31/Userboxes/User earth and put the code {{subst:userbox|black|blue|[[Image:Solar_sys2.jpg|50px]]|This user is a resident of the third planet from Sol (the blue one).}} there (it will get expanded to the full wikicode). Then, to actually put the userbox on a userpage, use the code {{User:SuperLuigi31/Userboxes/User earth}}. Миша13 22:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
OK, thank you! --SuperLuigi31 22:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Why wasn't User:SuperLuigi31/Userboxes/User vulcan philosophy convertd into WikiCode? --SuperLuigi31 17:30, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

You deleted Image:Henrygale2.jpg because it was "an unused fair use image". This is incorrect. I would appreciate it if you undeleted the picture. Thanks.--CyberGhostface 23:18, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Very strange. I have undeleted it now, but the image page still doesn't say it is being used (and the article doesn't display the image). Must be some rare glitch or not updated cache. :-O Cheers, Миша13 23:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

If I wanted to keep this conversation amusing, I'd say "on a daily basis". :) But I guess your question is more of a philosophical nature, i.e. "what the f*** do you think you're doing?" Well, I must say I was conflicted here - on one hand, there is our WP:BOT policy (which is majorly flawed and outdated, but that's beside the point) which requires me not only to get an approval for something that's perfectly fine to do, but also, quite possibly to go through a silly process of RfA, unless I didn't want to run it off a different account (but then I'd probably get shouted at for bypassing RfA using BRFA). On the other hand, I have the Prime Directive, as well as some serious copyright law to consider. Having weighted all factors, I have decided to apply WP:IAR selectively, help keep Wikipedia legally-safe and help some folks clean up the 3-day backlog of 1000s of images on CAT:ORFU. So far I have deleted something in the range of 10000 images in the span of 3 days (so that other admins can attend to more mind-involving issues), I have received a total of 1 (one) "complaint" (thread above), which wasn't even caused by an error on my side.
And now that we're speaking seriously, I'd like to ask you a question: Is this a problem for you? Do you question any of my deletions or just the fact that I did them automatically, saving others' (and my) time? Do you want me to release the source code so that you "know what's it doing" or do you want me to stop and go through torments of having to explain myself to the unfortunately-still-zomg-adminbot-paranoid community? (And given ProtectionBot's failure (and that was a mild adminbot, unlike this "crazy" rapid deletion script) I lean to doubt it'd get an approval.) Миша13 22:31, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Question: is the bot just going through the per-day sub-cats of Category:Orphaned fairuse images or is it actually verifying on a per-image basis that each image is not presently being used in article space? If it's not checking this, should it? --Cyde Weys 00:09, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I'll be posting the code shortly. But here's what it does. It goes through the given CAT:ORFU subcategory and deletes every image that satisfies the following conditions:
  • Image is orphaned, i.e. not used in article namespace
  • The image page has been edited no earlier than 7 days ago (sometimes I shorten it to 6 days to finish off a day's category before the end of day)
  • The last editor of the page was one of: User:BJBot, User:Fritzbot, User:OrphanBot.
Suggestions are welcome, though I think it's quite safe a setup. Миша13 00:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
PS: User:Misza13/Scripts/catorfu.py - okay, so I lied. :) I have added one non-bot to the list of authorized taggers (a very active one). Миша13 00:21, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hey, what is that AAAAAAAAAAAAA thing that shows up behind the wikiglobe on your user and talk pages? Aditya Kabir 08:47, 14 February 2007 (UTC) - Please, answer to my talk page

Two images unfortunately deleted by you, can you help?

It seems that you have deleted two images I uploaded (Image:Chaltikanaam.gif and Image:Gangulybros01.jpg), along with all the painstaking work that went into rationalizing fair use and citing sources and authors, because they were lying about quite orphaned and were tagged as such by BJBot. Very unfortunate, because I was busy at the time and could not check on WP much, if at all.

They were not orphans to begin with, but rather was a part of the Ganguly family (films) article. A certain user (User:Prince Godfather) removed them from the article and reinstated a completely copyvio image gallery removed much earlier from the page. This amazing deed was reverted by another user (User:Yamla), but it was too late for the two images I mentioned.

Please note, that this particular user...

  • has been accused of sockpuppetry
  • has broken all civility guidelines
  • contributes a great deal without any regard for verifiability or citation policies
  • practices vandalism
  • was blocked from WP once or twice, is engaged in quite a few edit wars
  • ...and has responded very unfavorably when I questioned his behavior about the images in discussion.

I am checking this user as much as I can, though without the tools available to admins it's quite an arduous task. But, whatever happens to this amazing user, I'd very much like to have those images back on Wikipedia. I have learned the ropes for fair use policies the hard way, and am weary of the task of reinstating the info and rationales that are required.

It would be very helpful if you could tell me what do I have to do in getting those two images back along with the rationale and info back to the article I mentioned. Please, bear in mind that none of these two images had gone through any trouble with fair use (never tagged or reported at that). The orphan state was a misunderstanding brought about by a decadent user, not a fault of the uploader (which happens to be me). Can you help, please? image undeletion

Dear admin. You are one of the admins that deleted one of the around 70 images that became unlinked due to a change in an Infobox. This resulted in many of these images to become orphaned and subsequently deleted because they are not Free images. It took a while before the less experienced authors understood there was a problem and informed more experienced authors to look into the problem. Because these images would not be deleted if the template change had gone without problems, I ask they be undeleted. kindly -- 20:50, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Automated message to bot owners

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:19, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Speedy-deleted image has been uploaded under another name

The uploader of an image you have speedy-deleted per CSD i5 (Unused unfree copyrighted images) has uploaded the same image again as Image:Goguryeo 1.jpg. The user seems to have uploaded it mainly for display at their user page, i.e. outside article space, so it is not covered under the fair use doctrine.

The uploader says the image can be found on many South Korean websites, but I doubt that makes it public domain. I have not tagged the new upload – perhaps you can decide what to do with it? Wikipeditor 13:57, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Right now, the image is being used on an article, so I have tagged it with {{fairusein}} and with {{fairusereview}} additionally, because I'm not a licensing expert in general. Additionally, I have removed the image from the user's page. Миша13 17:37, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

WikiDefcon Question

Hello, I was wondering how you made your WikiDefcon thing? Actually, there's nothing rude in that - go ahead and copy freely. :-) My contributions are licensed PD unless otherwise noted. Stop it

Don't revert my edits to the MJ article. That's as much as I'm saying. Noogster 22:20, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, for some reason edits like this look to me like if the article in question has been completely butchered (and in fact, the intro has been completely stripped of references). Finally, I don't like the tone of "That's as much as I'm saying." Миша13 22:25, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I didn't make that edit, Avraham did. The article does look a bit butchered, and for very good reason: the subject matter is extremely controversial. Both Christians and Rabbinic Jews completely misunderstand our religious beliefs and on Wikipedia apparently believe that they are much more qualified to define the finer points of our religion than we are. Edits or creation of Messianic Judaism articles. It is no surprise that the articles look torn. Noogster 22:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Is this the edit that Avraham did? Миша13 22:46, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Gah, I've been observing the Essjay drama for a while and only just noticed that he (and his bots) quit. :'(
I've already started rewriting the code (since it's so messy) to a newer version, but gave it up due to real-life burden a while ago. But since there'll be a need for it, I'll try to find some time to dig it up and set up under MiszaBot. Миша13 10:46, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

"This Space Is For Rent"

Hi, I notice you have a conveniently banner ad sized bit of userpage that you don't know what to do with :) Is it really for rent? If so, is it OK if I advertise stuff like maintenance collaborations and guidelines there? Thanks for your time – Qxz 19:01, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, yes it is. I used to have the motto there, but got disappointed. Then there was {{Special:Recentchanges/1}} trancluded for a while, but I got bored. Gurch promised to put something there, but left. So, I'm stuck with this piece of space and no ideas. Go ahead and edit User:Misza13/Global Header with regard to that space. If it's something interesting and I like it, I'll just adding something like "Ad by Qxz" and let it be. ;-) Миша13 19:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I've constructed a template in my userspace which randomly displays one of six banner-ad-shaped images that I've uploaded, some of which are animated. This template is already in use on my talk page and others; I'll add that to the header. I'm planning to add more over time – feedback on the ads themselves and suggestions for new ones would be most welcome. Thanks again – Qxz 00:56, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Reverted common.js change

Hi Misza, I reverted your edit on MediaWiki:common.js because it was causing issues with firefox. See discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Please_enable_JavaScript. Hmm, I just noticed this. Can it do archives by number of headings in each, rather than size? At the moment I start a new archive when the current one has 50 sections in it, it'd be nice if a bot could do that. Thanks – Qxz 03:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

My user page deleted

Hey, I noticed you deleted my user page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=&page=User%3A2help , because it had not been active for a month. OK, I didn't realize that was a policy on Wikipedia. Did you even tag it for deletion previously?

In any case, I understand your good intentions. I had some useful links there however, any chance I could get them back or is the page lost for good? 2help 07:13, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

It's not that simple. You have the template {{test5i}} transcluded on your page. It adds your page to the Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages, which gets cleaned up periodically. But that assumes that the template was put on pages of users that were indefinitely blocked, which is not the case here. Since it is only me, who does the cleanup recently, before the next run I'll think of something so that it doesn't get deleted again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Happy editing, Миша13 08:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, that makes sense. Thanks for reposting the page. Let me know if there is anything I can do make your cleanup process easier. 2help 00:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I saw this discussion while here on Bot business. I've removed the Category: Temporary Wikipedian userpages from 2help's userpage. Given that he must use the shortcuts on the left and not copy and paste from the right, it doesn't seem to affect his use of warnings whether the cat is there or not (he just wants to see what they look like)... WjBscribe 15:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Heh, I should've checked the page's contents myself. Then I'd probably notice that a bot has substituted them already 3 months ago. Anyway, that means they're probably severely out of date now (with the help of the WP:UW project). Oh well... Миша13 15:35, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Ready. I've actually set it to /Archive$Y-A in the special "dated" mode, which means it should switch by itself next year. It'll however have a hard time with big, year-old archives... :/ Миша13 15:57, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! As regards to the year, can you set it to switch to user talk:Rama's Arrow/Archive2007-B after June 30, 2007? Basically I'm trying to have 2 archives for each year. Lemme know if there's anything I can do to simplify the process. Thanks again, Rama's arrow 18:31, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, right now it only supports variables for the year and month of thread. For an example, see how my archives are organised. I don't think I'll be adding this particular feature (-A and -B), unless I implement some sort of formula parsing, so just bug me in summer whenever it's time to turn the counter. Bot III Features

Is there a feature list somewhere? Like, will it create an {{archivebox}} automatically, or just add to one, etc? Thanx... — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 14:02, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

No, there is no feature list at the moment, because I expect it to evolve rapidly soon. So far it can put threads into archives and move on to next when they reach a certain size (in kilobytes). It lacks the automatic updating of an archive box yet, and that's gonna be one difficult feature to add. Миша13 14:06, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, just checking. Apparently, I'm not the only one with the problem that I had EssjayBot doing it, so then went to Werdnabot which never even ran on mine. Anyway, what language is it in? I may be able to contribute a little. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 14:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Oops

For some reason your archive bot put the archive here: User talk:HighInBC/Archive $I, looks like it is reading a variable literally. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 02:38, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks like the same prob happened with all the archiving done at 02:35 [4]. WjBscribe 02:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
I have blocked the bot for 24 hours, so it does not do it again on it's next run(I assume it runs at automatic intervals). Once you know what has gone wrong I will gladly unblock. Sorry about that, thank you for filling in with this much needed service. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 02:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Oops indeed. I have rewritten the variable handling yesterday, uploaded the new code to toolserv, uploaded updated config for I and II, but forgot about III. :-P Anyway, since it's fixed and mess cleaned up, I'll unblock it myself, if you don't mind. And thanks for keeping an eye on it - it's still in rapid development stage and while I test it before running, errors such as this may still happen. Миша13 10:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Essjay

Could you tell me where you think the sourcing of the Essjay article is lacking? I'm truly keen on knowing what you think :) Gwen Gale 12:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not suggesting any lackings. My sarcasm was rather refering to the fact that any articles on controversial, even-if-marginally-notable-outside-Wikipedia topics tend to have their references section blown out of proportion compared to the size of article, with nearly every sentence referenced. This of course is required so that noone can find a proper stick to kill the article with. And by the way, I really and without sarcasm would like people to concentrate on the 1,6M+ other articles we have, most of which are crap beyond imagination with regard to refernces. Миша13 13:00, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Aye, that's the pith. Gwen Gale 13:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey by the way I think this is spot on. Gwen Gale 14:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Bot problem

Hi Misza13, thank you so much for taking my order. There seems to be a proble, though. The bot is archiving my messages to Archive03, not Archive3 as I'd requested. Is that how it work? Thanks a lot. Xiner (talk, email) 14:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

No, it's an error on my side. I must've just made an error when copy-pasting the configuration. Should be fixed now. Миша13 14:55, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Cool, I see it's working beautifully now. Thanks! Xiner (talk, email) 14:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Unfair block!!!!

Hey, why did you block the user "Can't sleep, Retiono Virginian will eat me" because of username!!?? That's unfair!! If you people can tolerate the presence of "Can't sleep, clown will eat me", why can't you allow this one!!?? --Edmundkh 16:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

There is a troll who has been taking names very similar to User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me's name to cause disruption. This choice of name has been used has a form of harassment in the past. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 16:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

This fair use image became orphaned due to vandalism that was not correctly reverted. Do you feel that its fair-use rationale still applies to the article (Pop-up Video)? –Unint 19:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I would say yes, but don't quote me on this (I'm not an expert). Since it was deleted by mistake, I have restored it. Миша13 20:50, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Do Unreplied

Does MiszaBot III archive unreplied messages? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 23:49, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes - it makes decisions basedon oldest timestamp in a thread. Sections without timestamps are ignored (will add an option to archive these in future). Миша13 00:02, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Shouldn't it archive based on the newest comment? Otherwise a very long thread (lets say 10 days) will be archived though it's still ongoing. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:12, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Did I say "oldest"? Please discard my incoherent babbling - it's 1AM here... Of course it looks on the newest timestamp. Миша13 00:20, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
How about MiszaBot II? It would be nice on places like Wikipedia:Drawing board to leave requests that haven't gotten replies yet alone when archiving. The idea being that once the clutter of replied to requests are archived, the unreplied requests will stand out better, not to mention that these users deserve a reply even if there's a backlog. Thanks! —Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 07:00, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

MiszaBot III weirdness

Hey, I've noticed that MiszaBot III has been archiving threads from my user page to User talk:Coredesat/Archive 07. The threads should be going to User talk:Coredesat/Archive 7. Could you fix this? --Coredesat 05:21, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick fix. :) --Coredesat 20:39, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

User talk:Jimbo Wales archiving age

User talk:Jimbo Wales is currently archiving threads older than 2 days. It was originally 7 days, but I lowered it due to the high traffic it had been receiving due to the Essjay incident. Now that the high traffic has subsided, it might be a good idea to return to the old behaviour. --cesarb 07:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows, talk

Could you please stop your bot auto archiving the above page? Sandpiper 19:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I have disabled it per your request, although I don't understand what's wrong with it. Please make up your mind - I didn't come to set up the archiving on my own, but was asked by someone else (User:Fbv65edel). Миша13 19:21, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Misza, I know Essjay used to insist on seeing a concensus on an article's talkpage before he was willing to archive it. If this sort of thing continues, you might want to introduce a similar requirement for MiszaBot. WjBscribe 19:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
People put comments on talk pages and might like to read the answers they get before the whole lot gets deleted. 5 days delay is crazy. Aside from that, 5 months is crazy if a point is important and still relevant to the contents of the page. You can't just archive away things useful to editors. I have made up my mind, and on this point I havn't changed it. I don't recall anyone asking. FBV did ask about himself archiving some stuff on that page, but in that case he also went ahead and did it before I even noticed he was considering it, which rather illustrated my first point. Sandpiper 00:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Bot not working right?

It seems that every time bot III runs, it stops at Martinp23, and my page has yet to be archived. Is there something wrong? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 20:30, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the user right after Martin was renamed and the bot freaked out on a page redirect. Such problems will be entirely fixed once I implement a Werdnabot-style template-based config. Миша13 20:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

::Okay. And also, my page just archived to User talk:TeckWiz/Archive/2007/Ma, when it should go to User talk:TeckWiz/Archive/2007/Mar (not the "r" at the end.) User talk:Shadow1

Hi, it seems that one user Shadow1 is using the defunct Werdnabot for archiving. Could you please contact him for using MiszaBot III. Cheers! zero » 01:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I see you have contacted him already. If he needs the service, he'll know where to sign up. Миша13 08:19, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

suggestion

I see you've been blocking a bunch of disruptive usernames ("x is y's IP" and the like). Way to catch those guys! Could I suggest, however, that you enable autoblock, to prevent them from creating more ridiculous usernames? I think it's pretty clear that they aren't going to be constructive contributors. Natalie 03:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I usually avoid setting autoblocks, because they are discouraged due to collateral damage (the vandal may be using a shared IP, and they usually are) and WP:AGF. Only in severe cases (long series of abusive names) I tick the box. There's however one username vandal that just returns after the autoblock expires and also hops IPs. Regards, Миша13 08:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Archiver

Hello! I currently have your bot archiving my talk page, but I've found that the archive page is just too long. Is it possible for you to change it so that the archive is switched after 125KB instead 250KB? Thanks! --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 01:23, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Adjusted. Миша13 06:44, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Archive bot suggestion

Hi Misza, I have a suggestion for archiving the noticeboards. There could be two settings for thread age to trigger archiving. If the thread is either "resolved" (using {{resolved}}), or "closed", then the thread can be archived earlier, and in addition, threads that are idling because people haven't paid attention to some request will stay unarchived longer. Quarl (talk) 2007-03-16 07:34Z

Nice suggestions, but you should keep implementational issues in mind too. While the detection of {{resolved}} is a simple idea and should be ready soon, but I don't quite understand how do you propose to detect the "closed" state of a thread. Also, how do you discern threads that noone has paid attention too from those that are resolved & closed already, but perhaps not tagged properly? Миша13 07:47, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Good point, well, it'll be another incentive to mark threads as {resolved} :) Quarl (talk) 2007-03-16 10:12Z
I added 'class="discussion-archived"' to the div in Template:discussion top, so it should be easy to detect it now. Quarl (talk) 2007-03-17 05:39Z

Werdnabot

Given that this Bot is unavailable for now- and at worse case scenario may have become ownerless, I think its important to draw people's attention to this and suggest your bot as an alternative. Otherwise Wikipedia may drown in its own talk (and boy do we all like to talk!). I was thinking of a post at WP:AN and on the Village Pump (I don't see any so far). Just wanted to check with you first as to whether you minded the possibly large inflow of requests you might get... WjBscribe 14:40, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I think I could quite easily process even 10s of requests as long as they follow instructions. Worse thing will be with cleaning up the talk pages from old code (if I'm not mistaken, WB used to maintain and update archive indexes - a feature MiszaBot doesn't have yet). Миша13 14:45, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it did that if the "archivelist=" parameter was included, but it looks like most users of the template did not included it. So either people didn't want it, or didn't realise it could do that. Either way the function shouldn't be missed too much....
If you're happy with the extra requests I'll post a couple of notes about Werdnabot and suggest your Bot as an alternative. Thanks, WjBscribe 14:50, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
At the end, Werdnabot (talk contribs) was handling 655 talk pages. Can you handle that many? JRSpriggs 07:07, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
A Werdnabot clone, Shadowbot3, should be coming online shortly so Misza won't have to take on all the Bot archiving on Wikipedia. WjBscribe 07:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

bot archive?

Does your bot archive user talk pages as well? I looked on the bots page but it said it only does noticeboards. However your talk page seems to indicate otherwise. If so, could I get your bot to archive my user talk page at User talk:Swatjester? Thanks! SWATJester On Belay! 19:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Where does it say so? MiszaBot III archives user talk pages. For my convenience, please apply via User:MiszaBot/Archive requests. Миша13 20:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I was looking at Miszabot II. SWATJester On Belay! 05:49, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Archive jumping at User talk:Jimbo Wales/Credential Verification

Jimbo cleared out the whole page at User talk:Jimbo Wales/Credential Verification, moving the whole page to the second archive (your bot was still at the first archive). Could you make your bot archive starting at User talk:Jimbo Wales/Credential Verification/Archive 3, so newly archived discussions will not mix up with discussions from before the "reset"? --cesarb 02:13, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Adjusted. Миша13 10:18, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Foreign Wikipedias

Hi, Misza, do you run your bot on foreign wikipedias as well? At Swedish Wikipedia we would like to have our Village Pump archived on a regular basis. Is this something you can do? //Knuckles 15:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I'll release the source code soon enough, so everyone should be able to set up their own archiving service with only little knowledge of pywikipedia. Миша13 17:21, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Yay, thanks! :-) //Knuckles 17:52, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

User Status

Hi! The user status is a great idea! But I just can't get it to work. I followed the instructions and the only thing that I changed was "Example's Status" to "Greeves' Status" on the template. If you could have a look at it, I have all the same page names that you chose. The strange thing is that I see the in/out/busy when I preview my monobook yet when I save, it doesn't stay. Thanks in advance! Greeves (talk contribs) 00:32, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it just took a few minutes to kick in. LOL! Thanks for the great script though! Greeves (talk contribs) 00:58, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Quite understandable. On preview, the JS is force-loaded, but making it persistent requires clearing the browser's cache. You can read more about it on WP:CACHE. Cheers, Миша13 18:10, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Strange bot behaviour at User talk:Jimbo Wales

MiszaBot III was already archiving to User talk:Jimbo Wales/Archive 22; for some reason, it has now gone back to User talk:Jimbo Wales/Archive 21, which is already full. --cesarb 03:54, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Strange, since the counter in the config explicitly states "22" now - maybe just a one-time glitch - I'll see if it repeats itself. Миша13 17:50, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Wdefconbot

When will this be fixed? Real96 05:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean? It seems to be working fine. Миша13 17:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't see it on IRC. Real96 23:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

WP:UW future?

Hi, Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as active at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace template issue. As you are or have been active on this project we feel you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. My archive

Hi, Misza. There's something weird going on with my archive. It's set to switch at 125KB, but it currently is 137KB. Also, my discussions are being archived after one day instead of three. Can you help me please? It's located at User talk:Cremepuff222/Archive2. Thanks in advance. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually, after MiszaBot's last edit, the archive had only 117K. Then you dumped some stuff manually and overloaded it to its current state. By how the bot works, it will now drop one more thread there and then detect that it's full (it assumes it's the only archiver) and move on to #3. As of thread age, can you point me to a diff where it archived a thread "younger" than 3 days? Cheers, Миша13 21:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Bots

Hey, your bots didn't edit today. (I had to archive my talk page myself! :o) Are they dead, or just sleeping? Sorry for being impatient :) – Qxz 21:42, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

For one thing, I have lowered the edit rate to one run daily. For the other, seems that toolserv had a downtime while the run was scheduled (2:35) for today. Миша13 21:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Slow bot to 24h cycle

Hi Misza13,

Recently, MiszaBot III ran three times in a 24 hour period on a user talk page:

  • 20:36, 18 March 2007 MiszaBot III (Talk | contribs) m (Archiving 1 thread(s) older than 3d to User talk:Qxz/Archive 5.)
  • 08:36, 18 March 2007 MiszaBot III (Talk | contribs) m (Archiving 2 thread(s) older than 3d to User talk:Qxz/Archive 4, User talk:Qxz/Archive 5.)
  • 02:36, 18 March 2007 MiszaBot III (Talk | contribs) m (Archiving 2 thread(s) older than 3d to User talk:Qxz/Archive 4.)

It would be more convenient for me if the bot only ran once in a 24-hour period on a given talk page. (This is because when I am monitoring a talk page, I like to select an entire range of revisions and just see the differences between the first and last revisions. Each time an archive bot runs, it inserts a large revision that is irrelevant to me.)

Expressing my 2¢ worth,

--Kevinkor2 21:18, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

And you are monitoring my talk page for what reason? :D – Qxz 07:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Good point - I'll down the frequency to 1 edit per day for user talks. Миша13 17:47, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I see elsewhere on your talkpage that MiszaBot III has missed a few cycles. I'm sorry if my suggestion is causing troubles. Please feel free to undo. --Kevinkor2 04:08, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

MiszaBot III

Hi, MiszaBot III hasn't archived my talkpage since March 19, although there are now a number of threads older than 7 days on it. Is there a problem? I'd be grateful if you could find a sec to look into it. WjBscribe 02:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I think I nailed it. It seems to stop after User talk:KenWalker. Guessing that User talk:Kimonandreou is next on the list, I know what's the problem - again a redirect page that holds off the whole cycle. I'll fix it as soon as I get shell access. Миша13 07:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Small harmless bug

There is a small harmless bug here[6] where it says it is archiving 3 threads, but it is really archiving 4 threads. I think it is because on of those threads has no replies. Just thought I would point it out, thanks for taking over the archiving work. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 03:05, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Difficult to tell from the look of the diff and I don't have detailed execution logs either. My best guess would be that (for some reason) the bot didn't recognize one of the thread headers and treated it as a part of the previous one's content. Миша13 07:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
No big deal, lord knows I still have several little bugs in my bots. HighInBC(Need help? Ask me) 20:02, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Usertalk page 204.185.75.130

Why is 204.185.75.130's talk page protected? This makes it so even that user can't request unblocking.. Spixels 20:29, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

In cases when a user/IP abuses the {{unblock}} template or repetitively vandalises their talk page while blocked (and that was the apparent case here), their talk page may be protected from editing until the block expires. Миша13 20:43, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Then in that case could you add {{schoolip|Liberty Public Schools}}. (The only (possible) DNS I know of for this IP address is liberty.k12.mo.us which doesn't match up with 204.185.75.130) Spixels 21:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Is there a way that your bot can move all messages from that month to that archive no matter what (currently, if you use month archives, and someone leaves a message on the 27, and you have your bot set to archive after its 7 days old, it will archive to the next month, since it will be a new month in 7 days). Thanks! --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 13:46, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

No it won't. Each thread's time is equal to the last timestamp in that thread. So, if someone posts on 27th of March and you reply on 28th then it will be archived somewhere in April, but will land in the March archive (because the thread's timestamp is from March). Миша13 13:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
So even though it's programmed to archive to {{CURRENTMONTHABBREV}}, it will archive a March thread in April to the March archive? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 14:00, 24 March 2007 (UTC).
It's never been programmed to archive to {{CURRENTMONTHABBREV}}, but rather to %(monthnameshort)s. Миша13 14:07, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh. Thats great! Werdnabot never did that. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 14:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Experimental backlinking MiszaBot drive

Hmmm, does this mean everyone's going to have to have a template on their talk page for MiszaBot to work? And you didn't select me! :( – Qxz 17:27, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it means that. And sorry for not choosing you - I just needed a small sample - will run a batch conversion of all current users later on. Миша13 17:30, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and you might want to protect User:MiszaBot/config. Just in case someone finds it – Qxz 17:29, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Hrmmmyes... I know that... What's this wikistalking about, anyway? ^.^ Миша13 17:30, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Algo

What does the "algo" parameter mean? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:33, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Have a guess. Миша13 22:34, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
But what does that tell the bot? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:36, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
What are the conditions under which it should archive a thread. Миша13 22:37, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't "maxage" do that. Thanks! --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Ah, finally a good point. Obviously that's a screw up on my part. In the new system, the maxage parameter is ignored (as it is superceded by algo) - I forgot to scrap it when upgrading the system. I'll set up a hack in the code so that it gets removed on the next run. Миша13 22:44, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Template

You're probably getting tired of me (seeing as this is the third time I've posted a message on this page), but does the template allow users to change MiszaBot's archiving settings? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 23:21, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

(before edit conflict) I'm actually tired of keeping up with the new requests and maintaining the current configuration (it breaks more often than you might think). Thus, the answer is "yes" - configuration to the hands of people. :) I'm putting a short manual on User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo. Миша13 23:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh! I just saw that you created the User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo page. Sorry to bother you. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 23:24, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
(after edit onflict) grrr.... >:( Миша13 23:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Archiving

Can you stop archiving my talk page until I get back (probably in two weeks), because I am on Wikibreak. Thanks! Real96 03:50, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Just remove the template from your page. (it now works like Werdnabot, Misza doesn't have to manually change everything) --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 03:52, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

New interesting article

Check this out: Battle of Jarosław, and please, make it better :) Pan Wikipedia 13:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I'd love to (like I'd like to improve all articles on Wikipedia), but I really suck at writing articles and am much better suited to technical assistance and gnomish work. Besides, I have no idea where to get sources from to improve it. Try asking for help on our noticeboard, perhaps? :-) Миша13 14:23, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Ooops

Saw your correction on my watchlist just before I got your message, sorry.... (Just can't trust people to do it themsleves :-) ). WjBscribe 14:19, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Bridges

I see this page has been set to be archived by Miszabot - I had thought it was polite to see if there was a consensus among the page's users before doing so? This has removed quite a lot of material that as far as I was concerned was still relevant, ongoing discussion and it will be tedious to go through and restore the relevant items. -- Kvetner 22:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Instructions I've pointed out in various places do mention that some consensus is welcome when archiving public noticeboards. It's up to the users now, really - don't blame neither the bot nor me. You can simply revert the bot (since it's still the top contributor) and remove the template I've added here (or adjust the settings, although threads that are one month old are hardly "ongoing" to me). Миша13 23:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Main page talk archiving

Just keeping with what bot does what: Even though the main page talk is actually in the talk mainspace, shouldn't MiszaBotII be archiving it, since it's Wikipedia related? --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 00:53, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

In an ideal world, it should, and it did back when each bot read the full configuration from a file given to it. Now they all work via backlinks to User:MiszaBot/config and I can only restrict each one to one namespace or one page, but cannot ban a bot from editing a page. Yet. MiszaBot III

There is a malfunction of your bot's service. Its edit summary indicates that my posts are transferred from my talk page to a special file called "/dev/null". Could you fix it? — zero » 03:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Because it's not just "formatting" - the options need to be given line-by-line, not smashed together. Otherwise, the bot won't fine a line named "|archive=" and assume you want the posts to go to nowhere. It's not the bot's malfunction, maybe I haven't made myself clear enough on the instructions page. Миша13 09:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Bot?

Hi - got a bot running un books in your name - User:MiszaBot - misplacing categories at present. Reverted and blocked for now - thanks --Herby talk thyme 11:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Could be a vandal bot - feel free to let me know - thanks --Herby talk thyme 11:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Replied on wikibooks. Миша13 11:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - digging a bit - looks like a few vandal bots created. IP here has a W o W reference too! Indef blocked the bot - thanks for the help - cheers --Herby talk thyme 11:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Documentation?

Can you add some documentation on how us mortals can edit things like

{{User:MiszaBot/config |maxarchivesize = 125K |counter = 94 |algo = old(3d) |archive = Talkfrr:Main Page/Archive %(counter)d }}

, since I cannot find any documentation about it anywhere. Especialy the "algo" bit. ffm talk 20:10, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Every bot has a big link to User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo on their userpage, where all options are explained. algo= basically tells when to archive a page. Миша13 20:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Also, is there a way to get the bot to put {{talkarchive}} {{archive-nav|(counter)}} on every new archive page it creates for Talk:Main Page? ffm talk 20:13, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Not yet. Миша13 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply, and sorry for my stupididy in the first posting. ffm talk

There are no stupid questions - only answers and it btw helped me spot that some evil anon broke the config. (I'd spot that from error logs, but anyway...) Миша13 20:38, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, then I am glad to have been of help! ffm talk 20:40, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help fixing the code I put on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Jersey State and County Routes. Apparently I fixed my copy and pasting in one place, but not the other. And also, thank you so much for providing this service. -- NORTH talk 09:13, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Forgot to switch accounts

No, I didn't forget to switch accounts, and yes, I decided it would be best to make it clear that both accounts are mine. I didn't do so initially because I didn't want to cause yet more fuss – Qxz 12:21, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Talk archive header

I think it would be good to have the archiver put the {{talkarchive}} template at the top of each archive page. Sancho (talk) 16:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedians who support Hezbollah

I know that. That was the reason they gave when deleting "Wikipedians who support Hezbollah". Where I come from, they call it double-standards. KlakSonnKeep it to yourself 18:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
