Miss World 1993

The 43rd Miss World pageant was held on 27 November 1993 at the Sun City Entertainment Centre in Sun City, South Africa. The pageant attracted 81 contestants from all over the world. This is the second consecutive staging of the pageant in Sun City. The pageant had it share of controversy when Israel's Tamara Porat and Lebanon's Ghada Turk were photographed side by side each other. The said photos caused uproar in their respective countries. The event was hosted by actor and future James Bond, Pierce Brosnan.

  • Lithuania competed in Miss World for the first time.
  • Croatia made into the semi-finals in Miss World for the first time, placed as finalist, and then received the "Queen of Europe" award.
  • This is the first time that no European or American country had made into the crowning ceremony.
  • This is the first that a contestant who received the "Queen of Caribbean" award won the Miss World title.
  • France, who failed to make into the semi-finals in Miss Universe 1993 in Mexico City, surprisingly made into the semi-finals in Miss World.
