Miss Turkey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miss Turkey is a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Turkey, who personify beauty with intelligence. The first beauty contest was held on September 2, 1929 with the backing of the government, and the title holder was Feriha Tevfik.

Miss Turkey pageant was initially promoted by the newspaper Cumhuriyet. Since 1980, it is being run by the "Miss Turkey Organisation". Between the years 1980-1990, the contest was sponsored by the newspapers Güneş, Sabah, Tercüman, Bulvar and some others. With the establishment of private TV channels in Turkey in 1990, the channels Magic Box, Show TV, Kanal D and Star TV took over the promotion of the pageant. The title "Miss Turkey" is a registered trade mark.

The winner of the contest participates in the Miss World finals, while the three runner-ups are delegated to other international contests of Miss Universe, Miss Europe and Miss International each to represent Turkey.
