Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends is an animated program based on the beloved children's books by David Kirk, which airs on Noggin and Nick Jr.. Each episode follows the everyday adventures of a family of bugs, who have made their home in what is called the Hollow Tree, led by the gentle, kind-hearted Miss Spider. The show gives young viewers a bug's-eye-view of a whimsical, woodsy wonderland.

The show touches on social and emotional themes that children will recognize from their own lives. The overarching theme is about the importance of getting along with others--our family, our friends, and members of our community. It is meant to serve as a model for children about how to go out into the world and learn to live with others.

Our gifts, they are many: We hop, fly and crawl. But kindness is the finest of all! - Miss Spider

[edit] Characters

  • Miss Spider — A yellow spider voiced by Kristin Davis. She is a vegetarian, and is a mother to many. She adopts homeless bugs.
  • Holley — A yellow spider voiced by Robert Smith. He is Miss Spider's husband and the father of all the bugs. He is smaller in size than Miss Spider. Loves to play the guitar.
  • Squirt — A green spider voiced by Scott Beaudin. Favorite pastime is web surfing, an activity performed by riding air currents on small, woven webs. Although he is a boy, Squirt does wear a purple "hat" (which is a flower).
  • Shimmer — A pink jewel beetle voiced by Rebecca Brenner. She is one of the adoptive children of Miss Spider and Holley.
  • Dragon — A purple dragonfly voiced by Mitchell Eisner. An adoptive child of Miss Spider and Holley.
  • Bounce — A blue bedbug voiced by Julie Lemieux. An adoptive child of Miss Spider and Holley. He is a two-legged, high energy bug.
  • Spinner — A yellow spider voiced by Austin Di Iulio. Sporting very large eye glasses, he is a smart and wise bug often looked to for advice. While he is not great at basketberry, he has a wonderful talent for the bugpipes.
  • Snowdrop — A yellow spider voiced by Alexandra Lai. She is the twin of Pansy. Her distinguishing feature is a green bow on a strand of hair on her head.
  • Pansy — A yellow spider voiced by Aaryn Doyle. She is the twin of Snowdrop. Her distinguishing feature is a pink bow on a strand of hair on her head.
  • Wiggle — A blue spider voiced by Marc McMulkin.
  • Beetrice — The queen bee voiced by Catherine Gallant.
  • Stinky — A stinkbug voiced by Scott McCord. Lives in the Dribbly Dell.
  • Spiderus — A white spider voiced by Tony Jay. He is married to Spindella. Spiderus is somewhat sulky and overly touchy, as the innocent and (most of the time) harmless antics of the children can send him into a fit of rage. However, he does show a glimpse of chivalry and kindness every now and then.
  • Spindella — A red spider voiced by Kristina Nicoll. Married to Spiderus. In a sense, Spindella is a foil to Spiderus; she is much warmer and appreciative of the kids. Spindella revealed that she was pregnant at the end of the special episode "Be Good to Bugs... and Frogs." It was thought that this storyline might not been through to completion due to death of Tony Jay during the show's production. However, the spiderlings were hatched in the episode "Lulla-Bug; Most Perfect Parent."
  • Mr. Mantis — A green praying mantis voiced by Wayne Robson. Mr. Mantis is the Sunny Patch schoolteacher, providing wise instruction to Miss Spider's kids, as well the other youngsters of the Patch.
  • Betty Beetle — A green beetle voiced by Patricia Gage. Adopted Miss Spider when she was a spiderling. Grandmother to the young bugs.

[edit] Songs of Sunny Patch - Lyrics

[edit] Opening Theme

Spiders are spinning away in the trees
Buggies are bouncing and riding the breeze
Gliding through the sky, we're flying high
The fun we hatch in Sunny Patch
To the Hollow Tree, a family
On wings and strings, and floaty things
Coming home for hugs, be good to bugs
Then close.

[edit] Have a Happy Hatch Day

Have a happy hatch day
We hope your dreams come true
Your hatch day is so special
Cause that's when we got you

Spiders will be swingin'
Beetles will be wingin'
Everybuggy singin'
Happy Hatch Day

Everybuggy's party
Is on the day they're hatched
So fly, or crawl, or skitter
There's fun in Sunny Patch

Spiders will be swingin'
Beetles will be wingin'
Everybuggy singin'
Happy Hatch Day

[edit] Bugaboo

Welcome to our hulla baloo
With dancing ghosts and goblins who
Fly and float and play tricks on you
It's all in fun so don't boo hoo
Just have a happy Bugaboo

Oh ho what a frightening sight
We're dancing in the pale moon light
High above like shimmering kites
Come join us on this scary night
Just have a happy Bugaboo

We can do all kinds of things
Racing bees, or tickling fleas
It’s more fun when done in threes

Bug buddies, bug buddies
We’re best bug buddies
Bug buddies, bug buddies
We’re best bug buddies

[edit] Slow Down

Slow down and watch a leaf
Floating to the ground
Slow down and give a listen
To the wind's enchanting sound
From dawn until the day's end
Slow down and see the Earth's wonders
From dawn until the day's end
Slow down and make a friend
