Miss Austria
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Miss Austria is a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Austria. From 1959, the promoter is Miss Austria Corporation.
But there were beauty contests already prior to World War II, of which little is known. The Viennese girl Lisl Goldarbeiter was crowned Miss Universe in 1929; other Austrian beauty queens were Ms. von Grienberger in 1930, and Herta van Haentjens in 1931. Their pictures and family names are known from contemporary collectors' cards, but not the exact title (Miss Austria, Miss Österreich). They took part in the Miss Europe contests.
In the pageant of Miss Austria, the first and second placed candidates of each federal state take part. So in the final there are 18 delegates from the 9 Bundesländer.
