Miss Asia Pageant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Miss Asia Pageant (Traditional Chinese: 亞洲小姐競選), organized by the Asia Television Limited (ATV, a broadcast company in Hong Kong), has organized this event since 1985. Since 2004, it became an event for not just Hong Kong, but Asia, as it became an event for pagneants from other parts of Asia to participate. Up to the year of 2005, pagneants have came from these countries or regions: Hong Kong, Mainland China, Thailand, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam. Apart from Champion, First-Runner up and Second Runner-up, Third Runner-up and different awards are awarded occasionally.

The contest was stopped from the year of 2000 through 2003, and relaunched in 2004.

Starting from 2004, semi-finals are held in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Final tournament's format was changed to divide contestants into 3 regions: Special Administrative Region (including Hong Kong and Macau), Mainland China, and overseas Asia.

A notable feature over Miss Hong Kong Pageant is the lack of age limit, which is rare in beauty pageant contest in general.
