Mision Cristiana Elim Internacional

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mision Cristiana Elim Internacional is a pentecostal world ministry that was founded in El Salvador by Pastor Sergio Solorzano. It has churches in Australia, Belgium, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru and other parts of the world.

Its mother church, a megachurch under the name "Elim Central" located in San Salvador, is known as the second largest single church in the world. The ministry has a membership that easily surpasses 115,000 people and has congregated as much as 200,000. To take care of this giagantic congregation, MCEI has more than 500 hard working pastors in El Salvador. In members, MCEI is surpassed only by Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea, a megachurch with which MCEI has very warm relations. Yoido Full Gospel Church's senior pastor, David Yonggi Cho, developed a Cell method that would eventually be incorporated into Mision Cristiana Elim. Pastor Solorzano integrated Pastor Cho's Cell method and experienced dramatic success using it. MCEI would see staggering growth each month faithfully and would begin to attract the eyes of other ministries.

In the mid 1990s Pastor Solorzano experienced a difficult time in his personal life that would eventually result in the naming of a new senior pastor to look after MCEI. Pastor Solorzano eventually overcame his downfall and rose once again by holding on to the same faith in Jesus Christ he so passionately preached. He would go on to establish another world impact ministry, "La Palabra Viva" in the late 1990s.

MCEI, now under the leadership of new senior pastor Mario Vega, would continue to flourish and expand. MCEI is known among Christians for its "Time of Restoration" events in which hundreds of thousands of people gather from all around the world to worship together. These events have sometimes been held in all the major stadiums in El Salvador simultaneously.

Presently in El Salvador and Los Angeles combined, MCEI owns 6 radio stations under the name "Radio Restauracion" and is in the process of building an 11,000 seat auditorium and television studio in San Salvador.
