[edit] Tacitus

The Tacitus is a mysterious data matrix orb which is believed to contain all of the secrets and knowledge on Tiberium, and thus also on all of the substance's practical applications, making both its value and its danger immeasurable. It switched hands many times before ultimately ending up in the hands of the Global Defense Initiative's "Daedalus Team" under the lead of a Dr. Gabriella Boudreau, which was specialized in Tiberium-related research. The game noted that only two sentients were initially capable of translating the device; the mutant leader Tratos, and the Brotherhood of Nod's advanced artificial intelligence known as CABAL. It is insinuated throughout the storylines of Tiberian Sun and Firestorm that the Tacitus may be of an extra-terrestrial origin (hinting at the involvement of the Scrin), however this nonetheless remained unconfirmed. The name Tacitus is most likely a reference to Cornelius Tacitus for his enourmous wealth of information as a historian.

[edit] Translation

  • Tratos, with the help of Kane's artificial intelligence known as CABAL, was the first to translate the Tacitus, with Kane apparently using the knowledge to assist with the creation of the Brotherhood of Nod's uniquely advanced Tiberium-based military technologies.
  • GDI's "Daedalus Team", headed by GDI's foremost Tiberium researcher Dr. Boudreau, were eventually able to translate the Tacitus at the end of the events in Firestorm when they discovered and eventually recovered the second segment of the device, the existence of which was formerly unknown to them.

[edit] Bonus Crates

Bonus crates are crates that appear on the various maps of the Command & Conquer universe and are acquired/activated by moving a unit to the square on which the crate is contained. These crates usually contain powerups that are given to the player who reaches the crate first. Often crates will affect not only the unit which activates the crate but also all units in the immediate vicinity (i.e. within one square of the crate, giving the crate a 3x3 area of effect, the central tile being the one on which the crate is situated)

[edit] Effects

Note: All effects described below apply to all units (and structures although it is uncommon for a crate to spawn near a structure - usually the structure would have to be build or deployed after the crate has spawned) within a 3x3-tile area of effect.

[edit] Rewards

  • Promotion of recipient units to the "elite" rank.
  • Augmentation of the speed, firepower or armour of recipient units.
  • Addition of Brotherhood of Nod active camouflage stealth technology to recipient units.
  • Creation of a unit under the recipient unit owner's control (this unit can be anything from any faction, including construction yards. Earlier versions have infantry which comes in a "grab-bag" of 5 different infantry, often including one rocketeer, riflemen and engineer).
  • Gift of a single-use countdown-free superweapon (e.g. Ion Cannon) with no required structures or units.
  • Gift of credits.
  • Healing of recipient units.
  • Revelation of the entire radar map and thus, removal of all shroud (collecting this again will shroud the entire map, except where units are placed.)

[edit] Neutral effects

  • Infection of the tile on which the crate is situated with blue tiberium.
  • Infection of the tile on which the crate is situated with green tiberium.

[edit] Booby traps

  • Explosion on contact, causing instant destruction of recipient unit and damage all ajected units within a 3x3 radius.
  • Release of Tiberium gas clouds.
  • Shrouding of the entire radar map, except for areas where friendly units are placed.

[edit] Tiberium

The chief resource from another world. See Tiberium for details.
