[edit] Would you be willing to help? (Userboxes)
Hi, I remember that you put forth your name as a friendly admin at WP:TGS, and I was wondering if you could help me out. I created a number of userboxes in my userspace without thinking, and I'd like to get them deleted so I can actually move the templates there in order to preserve the history. The thing is, I'd like to do it in batches so I can fix things up without falling too far behind. If I just posted a few links here a day, could you drop by and delete the pages? Thanks. —Mira 07:38, 9 June 2006 (UTC)(copied from GTBacchus' talk page 02:54, 11 June 2006 (UTC))

I can do that.Just leave me links, and let me know what you need done. -GTBacchus(talk) 13:29, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello again
Hi, it's me again. I just wanted to mention that I posted the next batch of subpages I'd like deleted back up under the old heading where we were talking a few days ago. I hope I don't seem impatient, because I'm not; feel free to delete at your convenience. I'm just a little worried that you didn't get my message, as I didn't post it on the bottom of your page. Thank you. —Mira 03:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC) (copied from GTBacchus' talk page 02:11, 22 June 2006 (UTC))

User talk:MiraLuka/Userboxes/User bisexual has quite a bit of content - do you want it gone, too? -GTBacchus(talk) 20:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of logo
The use of a logo is considered fair when it is used to illustrate an organization. If students are part of a university ("the organization"), wouldn't it then be fair to use the logo in the userbox, as with {{User Bocconi}}? Gilbertogm 17:32, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion
I noticed that you tagged the page Template:User world citizen for speedy deletion with the reason "WP:GUS, moved to user space". However, "WP:GUS, moved to user space" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, and WP:GUS is not even policy, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can useWP:TFD if you still want the template to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 20:10, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Would G6 be a valid CSD in this case? An unused redirect pointing to a (soon-to-be) unused template would seem to fall into that category to me. —Mira 21:12, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can you fix my userpage please?
You fiddled with my maleness as a part of GUS and I don't know how to fix it myself. Thanks! --Kinst 03:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- You can fix it yourself by updating the old link to the new one, which is displayed in the box. —Mira 03:25, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I finally figured out now that I had to put in ":MiraLuka" instead of "User:MiraLuka". :-( --Kinst 17:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Participant over member
Dear Mira,
I would not say this in the open discussion of the massive rename that I put forward here, but the reason I chose the word participant over the word member is the third definition of member on Wiktionary. You defended that word for the Catholicism project, but do you really want member associated with Catholicism, especially with that definition floating about? Believe me, it makes me snicker a bit whenever I see the word member and Catholic in the same sentence, and I am Catholic. I just wanted you to know my reasoning.
—Lady Aleena talk/contribs 12:02, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hahahaha, I never even thought of that. I see your reasoning now, although I still think the projects should be able to choose between the two. If you ever wanted to try a smaller renaming, of a form such as "WikiProject _____ (members/participants)", you would have my full support.
—Mira 19:35, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] German userbox solution
Hi. You recently tagged a number of template for speedy deleting, citing WP:GUS. I have removed the tags for now, as I am not clear that a speedy deletion is valid. I have also requested a review of the situation. Cheers TigerShark 13:19, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User HNIC
Hi, I'm curious about this edit you made. What was unclear? —Mira 19:43, 29 July 2006 (UTC) (copied from Mangojuice's talk page 23:02, 29 July 2006 (UTC))
- Yeah, the one I untagged, it was because G6 is supposed to be for uncontroversial maintenance that requires deletion. It wasn't clear from the tag what the uncontroversial maintenance was supposed to be, and I couldn't figure it out, so I just removed the tag. [edit] Template (soft redirect, really) up for deletion
Just so you know, the original location of {{User Single Female}} is up for deletion, as it's just a soft redirect and has been for almost two months. Since you're the one who applied the German solution to it and hosted it at its new location, I figured you should know (in case you return in time).-- nae'blis 15:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. As I said at TFD, old pages like this are no longer necessary and I've been tagging them for speedying as I find them. I've just lost track of most of them. —Mira 18:42, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lutheran Infobox
Thanks for droping by my user page. Could you explain briefly why the Lutheran info box was deleted from my page. It's not a big deal, but it is important for folks to know who I am so they know why I edit what I do. Thanks! --CTSWyneken(talk) 09:35, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think there's some confusion here. I didn't remove your box, just Category:Religion user templates. This category is for userboxes only, the category must have been on your page by mistake. —Mira 03:01, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hell Userbox
I just noticed that my userbox: "This user is probably going to hell" has been deleted.Since you have a copy of it within your userpage I was wondering if you knew when this happened, and if there was a discussion and a vote for it, and if there is any possible recourse on the subject.ThanksCerealkiller13 20:30, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I just read about the German solution, which I was previously unaware of.I have substituted the new userbox adress into my userpage, and the box is up and running.Sorry for mucking up your discussion page.Cerealkiller13 20:41, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know when the template space one was deleted, I created my own version quite a while ago. Of course, you are more than welcome to use it.

[edit] Possible Userbox Solution
This is a form letter, please don't reply directly. Do, however, feel free to discuss this solution I've come up with.
I've made an unofficial place for all User Boxes (hopefully) safe from overzealous Admins. Feel free to add any you like, edit any there, or just list your already made userboxes there. Also feel free to edit the main page (the user page) in any way that you think might help. Please note, however, that this is a user page and not an official Wikipedia page, so almost any User Box will be tolerated as long as it's within reason. UserBox 03:18, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

- Please review WP:SPAM. You added a link to a page which already has 11 external links. Your link was redundant and unnecessary. —Mira 07:30, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Changing redirects
You made a minor edit to my userbox page in order to fix a link to a redirect. I don't mind your edit to my page, but I am not sure it is necessary to fix these links. Are you fixing double redirects or otherwise "broken" redirects? If not, you might want to read this section of the article on redirects. I used to be a zealous redirect-fixer myself until I read that section. --Ginkgo100 talk · contribs · e@ 03:59, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I fixed the redirect because the original page will soon be deleted. Thanks for the concern, though.
—Mira 04:01, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Citing Dates
Citing dates is not necessary under any writing system, as dates are considered common knowledge. Statistics, on the other hand, must be cited. Ameise -- chat 21:38, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Umm...yes, you need to give sources that prove that SWGEmu was started or released on a certain date, otherwise it is unverifiable original research. —Mira 21:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well, there is a link to the SWGEmu forum, what do you want me to link to a specific thread now? Also, where in that article does it state "Dates are a form of original research"? By this point, we should go thru all of Wikipedia, including articles specifically about dates, and add a citation for it! The German Empire formed in 1871? Where is your citation! Original Research, delete! Ameise -- chat 21:54, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- That article is a little thin on citations (as are most articles on Wikipedia) but it also has a nice references section, and I bet that if I picked up one of those books, it would tell me that the German Empire did indeed form in 1871. All of that is quite irrelevant to what we were discussing, though.
-
-
-
- You must provide citations for the dates you added, otherwise you are just asking readers to take you at your word that what you say is true. (I am not saying you are untrustworthy, but that this is not good encyclopedia policy.) As for the sources used to cite the dates, be sure that they are reliable. —Mira 22:06, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
-
- From my reading of the guideline on reliable sources, I think that using information from a web forum, even the official forum, is borderline at best. However, there are already quite a few links to forums and such in the article, so I'm inclined to let them be. If you are aware of third party sources, those would probably be better. Also, in the first link you give, is there any way to point it directly at the right post, and not the thread in general? —Mira 05:34, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Userboxes
(crossposted on several talk pages) I found that list, but since it was so old, I decided to make a new one... manually... (I should have mentioned this to someone before, so that they could talk me out of it : )
Sooo, several hours of typing/pasting/etc later...
They aren't a "huge" mess... but some observations:
- 1.) We should have a better or clearer naming convention, or something.
- There is no standard to capitalising the first word after "User " (it's about 50% lower/upper case). This also means that there are many hundreds of userboxes that are listed twice, once with an uppercase second word, and once with the lower case second word (though more than a few are redirects).
- several userboxes have a dash (-) or NO space between "User" and the first word.
- greek, russian, etc. letters in the name.
- the use of punctuation, such as "/" "," "..." etc.
- 2.) Several appear to be attempts to make userified templates. I'll work on moving those to each user's userspace.
- 3.) Many (very many) religion/politics ones are "back" in template space, it would appear that they just apparently "accidentally" haven't been added to the Userboxes sub-pages.
- 4.) there are more userbox redirects than the number of userboxes on a single subpage : )
- 5.) Oh, quantity of userboxes = 10027 (though that includes redirects, and 118 templates that have "user" as the initial word (though some of those have "userbox" as the first word). So it's roughly 10 thousand userboxes in template space. ouch.
Can I run away screaming now? : )
- Jc37 13:00, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you can definitely start running and screaming.
As for any other comments, it looks like there's a nice discussion going at Rfrisbie's talk page, I'll chip in there if I think of anything to say. —Mira 20:32, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ISO 15924
Saw you added user writing system to the overview page. IMO it would be good to use ISO 639-3 (or the old ISO 639-1) for languages and ISO 15924 for scripts. - Try READING the page I linked to before jumping to conclusions, even if I was, perhaps foolishly, trying to be playful in my edit summary, "The word discrimination comes from the Latin "discriminare", which means to "distinguish between". To discriminate socially is to make a distinction between people on the basis of class or category without regard to individual merit. Examples of social discrimination include racial, religious, sexual, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic, height-related, and age-related discrimination. Whether a given example of discrimination is positive or negative is a subjective judgement (i.e., in the eye of the beholder)." -Pro-family groups use the term, and say they are proud to discriminate, they feel it is immoral and against their beliefs not to. And, the original linked to page really does not address the question. So I tried to help, and you don't read the linked to page. So I take a min to look for something more neutral ( "inequality" I felt doesn't have the automatic negative connotation you found with "discrimination", and does apply to the issue far more than the "heterosexuality" article does,) , and again, you assume bad faith, call it "nonsense," and try to "warn" me about vandalism. You want it left this way, pointing to a page giving no further info for a person looking? Fine. But before you try to threaten another user, you might want to read WP:AGF, WP:DR, and, I dunno, THE PAGE I LINKED TO TO SEE IF IT ACTUALLY SAYS WHAT YOU ASSUME IT DOES. --John Kenneth Fisher 00:50, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Userboxes/Life#Family
If you're still here, I'm planning to move all the userboxes under this seciotn to my userspace, however, there is one thing I don't know…about the thing that says "Per the German solution, <that userbox> has been moved to <this userbox>". Can you tell me which template, etc. that is? — $PЯINGrαgђ Always loyal! 05:04, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, if you're still looking, I suggest you try WP:GUS. They should have a link somewhere, and if not, I'm sure someone on the talk page there would be better able to help you than I. —Mira 04:45, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry, but I am no longer actively editing Wikipedia. You should look for someone more active than me. —Mira 22:24, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
