Mirovia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mirovia (from Russian мировой, mirovoy, meaning "global") was a global ocean that encompassed the supercontinent Rodinia in the Neoproterozoic era, about 1 billion to 750 million years ago. Geologic evidence suggests that the middle Neoproterozoic, which is known as the Cryogenian period, was extremely cold; so cold, in fact, that one explanation (the Snowball Earth hypothesis) proposes that Mirovia was completely frozen to a depth of 2 kilometres.
