Miron Bleiberg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miron Bleiberg is a football (soccer) manager, formerly of Australian A-League team Queensland Roar, as well as numerous other Australian clubs in state and National Soccer League competition..

A former captain in the Israeli navy, he coached Melbourne Croatia for the 1985 and 1986 NSL seasons. The following year he took Maribyrnong Polonia to the 1987 Victorian State League title. This was followed by stints at Heidelberg United and the Brisbane Strikers, before going on to secure a string of successes in the Queensland Premier League with North Star and Queensland Lions.

Appointed the coach of the Queensland Roar for the inaugural season of the Hyundai A-League, the Roar missed the finals, thoigh the side’s attacking style won plaudits from the media as well as supporters. A student of the game, his outspoken views and endless stream of colourful quotes has made him a darling with the local and national media. [1]

After fluctuating fortunes as manager of the Roar during the 2006/7 season, rumours were rife in Brisbane of a change in coaching staff. Scoring only one goal in 12 hours of football, the Roar slipped from an auspicious start to the 2006/7 season to fourth position (after Round 15). With time left in the season for a recovery, it was announced on Sunday November 12th 2006 that Bleiberg had resigned as coach. Widespread speculation that former Socceroos and Brisbane Strikers coach, Frank Farina, would be announced as his successor at a press conference on Monday November 13th, 2006, proved true.
