Miranda de Ebro is an industrial city in the north-east of the province of Burgos in Spain on the border with the province of Álava and the autonomous community of La Rioja. According to a 2005 census conducted by Spain's National Institute of Statistics, it has a population of 38,276 inhabitants. The city is crossed by the river Ebro, which, divides the city in two parts

The city is an important transportation hub, especially as a railroad juncture, as there are numerous cities in the surrounding 80 kilometeres, including Burgos, Vitoria, Logroño and Bilbao.

The first data that are had on establishments in the zone date from the Age of the Iron. To only 3 km of Miranda the Roman deposit of Maple is located, where according to the last studies Deóbriga is located. In the zone also Roman vestiges in as near municipalities exist as Cabriana or Puentelarrá.

After the murder of Sancho Garcés IV of Navarre, Biscay, Alava, La Rioja and the real family, they recognized Alfonso IV of Castile like king, thus happening Miranda de Ebro at the hands of the Kingdom of Castile in 1076. Alfonso IV, to consolidate his power, granted to the villa in 1099 the Law of Miranda de Ebro.

The arrival of the railway in 1862 marked the beginning of the industrial revolution inthe city; in the station of Miranda the lines Madrid-Irún and Castejón-Bilbao came together, which turned it the important station in of the north of Spain.

In 1907, king Alfonso XIII grants to the villa I title of city.

During the Civil War, the city lodged a pro-Franco concentration camp, that remained active until 1947, being the last one of Spain in closing. By he himself they got to pass 65,000 prisoners.

Since 1992, Vierzon (France) is the sister city of Miranda de Ebro. In 1999 there was a complete program of acts to celebrate IX the Centenary of the Law of Miranda who culminated with the presence Infant Doña Cristina and her husband Don Iñaki de Urdangarín.

The secondary sector very is developed to thanks to its excellent situation geographic, next to the Basque Country and La Rioja, that for of Miranda de Ebro a city with a strong industrial and logistic character. The industrial revolution of the city starts with the arrival of the railway in 1862. In first half of century XX one settles in the city a sugar plant (1925), as well as FEFASA (1948), dedicated to the artificial fiber production that years later happened to be called ENCE, dedicated to the paper production. In the middle of this century many chemical industries proliferate like Montefibre, ELF-Atochen, Rests, etc.

In 1981 the first industrial estate of the city is created. To the delay they are great projects for the industrial and commercial impulse of the city, such as the industrial area of Ircio, the arrival of the AVE, etc. In the zone of influence of the city other companies agro-alimentary, aeronautical, iron and steel, and even power are located like the nuclear power station of Santa Maria de Garoña.
