MIQ

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MIQ is a Japanese pop singer who is notable for her musical contributions to some of the most classic anime theme songs in history. The throaty, soulful timbre of her voice was uncharacteristic of Japanese vocalists of the 1980s (although it has become more commonplace today). MIQ has listed Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, and Chaka Khan as influences on her vocal style. Her vocal delivery was a major reason she was signed to a contract with “anime powerhouse” King Records. MIQ performed in the United States at the 1994 and 1995 Anime East conventions. She returned to the American anime convention circuit at Anime Expo 2004.

For a singer so prolific for such a long period of time, surprisingly little information about MIQ exists. Her birthday is February 3 and her blood type is AB. Her name change from MIO to MIQ was reportedly suggested by a lifestyle consultant who believed that a change would signify a new start of her career which had been placed on hiatus while caring for her ailing father.
