Talk:Minor characters in The Railway Series
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page is in need of some severe maintenance work, as it looks like different contributors have different ideas as to what constitutes a "minor character". I don't really see how Duncan can be classed as "minor", for instance. And Shane Dooiney has never appeared in a story. And I'm really not clear why Stuart and Falcon, who are actually just Peter Sam and Sir Handel by other names, have been moved here. Tom
- I think that one of the ideas behind this was the fact that some of the really small characters were getting individual pages (Felix?), so they were all grouped together. It also seemed that if a characters was not 'major' or 'unfeatured' there was no other category for it. If every/most characters would get a mention somewhere, it seemed that this page was the logical place for it. Mdcollins1984 10:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rationalising
I've done some moving around. Duncan and Rusty are now on Major Characters, as they have appeared in a major role in several stories. Neil is now here, as he cannot be classified as an "unfeatured" character when he quite plainly has made several appearances, albeit very small ones. I'm inclined to move Diesel here as well, as he only appears in four stories (the same number as Wilbert or Stepney). I also think that Duke ought to be considered a major character, what do other people think?
- Re: Duncan/Rusty/Duke... I am still wondering whether it would be better for these (and all the others, except 'major major characters') to be moved to the Skarloey Railway page, in the same way that the Mid Sodor Railway, Arlesdale Railway and Culdee Fell Railway engines have been moved. My thinking is that there is a certain logic in having all the engines from each of the lesser railways in the railway's own article. This will have the added bonus of shortening the 'Minor'/'Major' character pages.
- Re: Diesel - yes, should be OK, but you'll have quite a few links to fix!
