Minty (My Little Pony)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minty is a Pony in Hasbro's line of My Little Pony toys. She has had many variations through the years, and has been in two of the three Pony lines. (Referred to as 'Generations' by collectors.)

[edit] Generation One (G1)

The original Minty was released in 1982 in the first generation of ponies. Minty was in the Collector's Pose. She came in two variations, one with flat bottomed hooves, the other with concave bottomed hooves. Her body was a very light green, nearly looking white. Her hair was white. Her symbols were green shamrocks.

The Generation Three Minty was released in 2003, one of the original ponies on the re-launch of the My Little Pony toy line. This Minty was a light green color also, but much darker than the previously released Minty. Her symbol is three swirled mint candies. Her mane and tail are usually pink, but other variations exist. Minty's backcard lists her favorite activities as collecting socks, standing on her head and playing checkers with Rainbow Dash.

Minty was initially released with the heart symbol on the wrong foot. The small heart marking indicates which foot a Pony's magnet is in, and Minty's heart was placed on the opposite front foot. This mistake was corrected in subsequent releases.

Minty also starred in the second full length My Little Pony movie, A Very Minty Christmas. She has also appeared in the other G3 animated features.

[edit] G3 Minty Variations

While Generation One Minty has no variations (aside from the hoof differences noted above), Generation Three Minty has had many variations on the market. Some of the most notable include:

  • Minty II -- The same as the original G3 Minty, just in a different pose.
  • Minty III -- Sold as part of the Wing Wishes set released in 2005. Again, she was similar to G3 Minty. Wing Wishes Ponies came with cardboard wings and a 'magic' wand.
  • Winter Minty -- Essentially just the original G3 Minty repackaged with Winter gear such as a scarf, hat and boots. (Which are actually socks from her collection.) Like all ponies, she came with a plastic brush.
  • Tiny Tin Minty -- A very small Minty, designed to fit inside a small tin container included in the package. This line is also notable as being one of the only lines where the Ponies do not come with plastic brushes. This Minty was made entirely out of hard plastic, including her mane and tail.
  • Plush Minty -- There have been several plush Minty toys. Some are available only as crane machine prizes. The most recent one, however, was a yarn hair singing plush tie in with A Very Minty Christmas. There is also a large (around 3 feet tall) plush Minty that is only available in Australia.
  • Keychain Minty -- A smaller Minty designed to be used as a key chain. It contained a mechanism that made her head bob up and down when you pressed on her tail.
  • Promotional Giveaways -- There have been multiple toy giveaway Minties. McDonalds had one with Happy Meals in 2005. There have also been ones given away by Taco Bueno and Red Rooster.
