Minor Vermin in Redwall

In the Redwall novel series by Brian Jacques, several characters exist who are classified as vermin. They are traditionally weasels, stoats, ferrets or rats, but the classification is also used to describe wildcats, foxes, and others.

Brother of Ungatt Trunn, father of Tsarmina and Squire Gingivere, Verdauga was the son of Mortspear, a king in a land across the sea. Like his brother, Verdauga sailed across the great ocean with a large army of vermin, and used his skill as a general and a politician to conquer a large kingdom in Mossflower, which he ruled from his castle at Kotir. Verdauga ruled over the area for many seasons, until the coming of Martin the Warrior. Around this time, his daughter Tsarmina began poisoning him. He died, and left her path to dominance open. Uncharacteristacally for many vermin rulers in the Redwall series, Verdauga was a benevolent ruler, albeit still a dictator, and valued his son's peaceful beliefs and methods over his daughter's savagery and aggression.

Years later, Redwall searchers would follow clues left by Verdauga to find the long lost treasure of Kotir.

Verdauga was voiced by Liam Tobin in the full-cast audiobook.
