It came to mean to produce or make by mixing, and there is an early reference to it in the context of making a poison. A third use for it in Scots dialect is to stir, trouble or upset. It first became known in English slang as a result of the television prgram "Rab C Nesbitt" (played by Gregor Fisher) who played a hopeless but endearing Glasgow drunk. There is no apparent derivation from the word "minge." People commonly known by the family name Minger include:
