Minford, Ohio

Minford is located in northeastern Scioto County, Ohio around 20 miles northeast of Portsmouth, Ohio and is 7 miles south of Pike County, Ohio and 8 miles west of Jackson County, Ohio. It was formed as Harrisonville in 1895. But was later changed to Minford in 1917 because of the railroad. There was another town in Ohio name Harrisonville. The first Minford school opened in 1923. And was demolished back in 2005. It set on West Street. The site is now undergoing construction for the new Desco bank and a Wendy's Restaurant. The new schools were built between the years of 1998-2004. The high school was completed in 2001 and the elementary/middle school was completed in 2004.

Minford is the home of the county's first postal office.

A bypass is currently undergoing development, State Route 823, and should begin construction in 2009. The bypass will be a 8-lane highway, 4 lanes in both directions, that will lead drivers from US 23 in Lucasville, Ohio to State Route 140, West of Wheelersburg, Ohio.
