Minervino Pietra

Minervino José Lopes Pietra (born Lisbon, 1 March 1954), is a former football right-defender who played for SL Benfica and Portugal National Team. He is now a current football manager.

He played for Benfica, from 1976/77 to 1985/86, were he won the titles of National Champion from 1976/77, 1980/81, 1982/83 and 1983/84, and the Cup of Portugal, in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1986. He also played at the UEFA Cup finals, in 1983, losing to the Belgian squad Anderlecht (0-1 abroad, 1-1 at home).

Pietra had 28 caps for the National Team, 5 for Belenenses and 23 for Benfica. His first game was at 14 November 1973, in a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland, for the World Cup qualifyings, wen he was only 19 years old. He was a usual player for the National Team for the next decade, having his last cap at 21 September 1983, in a 5-0 win over Finland, for the Euro Cup qualifyings. He missed the final squad that went to the Euro Cup 1984 finals, in France. He played for Benfica until 1985/86.

Since then, he's been a football manager and was assistant manager for Benfica, in 1996/97 and 1997/98.
