Mindan, or the Korean Residents Union in Japan, is the name of an organization for Koreans living in Japan. Mindan has ties to South Korea and was established in 1946 in Tokyo, Japan. Currently, 610,000 Korean residents in Japan are members of either Mindan (65 percent) or the competing Chongryŏn (allied with North Korea; 35 percent).
