MindTouch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MindTouch is an open source software development company based in San Diego, California. It was founded December, 2004 with an office in Saint Paul, MN, but moved all offices to San Diego, CA in February, 2007. MindTouch began with MediaWiki and during a year and half long beta test modified the application based on input from beta users. The users during this beta period were selected from an intentionally broad range of industries. MindTouch launched OpenGarden.org July, 25 2006. OpenGarden.org is the developer community for MindTouch DekiWiki, the first OSI approved commercial wiki, and MindTouch DREAM, a distributed REST application management framework. At DEMOFall, on September 10, 2006, MindTouch launched it's first commercial product the DekiBox smart hardware appliance. MindTouch launched it's second commercial product, MindTouch Deki, the first commercial open source virtualized Wiki January 21, 2007. John Gotts a domain purchaser licensed MindTouch's software to launch Wiki.com on August 15, 2006. Gotts had leased the domain for $10,000 a month for six months with an option to purchase the domain from the company Dynamo for $2.8 Million. The licensing agreement between Gotts and MindTouch was dissolved less than three months later and Gotts later defaulted on the purchase of the Wiki.com domain. With only 72 hours notice, MindTouch offered to save the wikis hosted at Wiki.com. MindTouch completed the migration of Wiki.com wikis to Wik.is by January 22, 2006 and relaunched www.Wik.is March 12, 2007.

[edit] Technology

MindTouch's wiki is built on a LAMMP stack. This is Linux, Apache, MySQL, Mono, and PHP. MindTouch Dream provides a Service Oriented Distributed Architecture (SODA) in which behavior is mobile and can be easily distributed across multiple platforms and devices.
