Minabe, Wakayama

Minabe (みなべ町; -cho) is a town located in Hidaka District, Wakayama, Japan.
As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 8,117 and a density of 311.23 persons per km². The total area is 26.08 km².
On October 1, 2004, the town of Minabe(南部町) merged with the town of Minabegawa to form the new town of Minabe(みなべ町).
Agriculture is a major industry, particularly Umeboshi (Japanese pickled apricot) is the best production in cities, towns, and villages in Japan. A traditional charcoal called Binchōtan are also important to the local economy.
