Template talk:Military

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Example, from Military of France:

{{Military
| color=#8888ff
| age=17 years of age with consent for voluntary military service (2001)
| availability=14,487,165 (2004 est.)
| service=12,044,827 (2004 est.)
| reaching age=394,413 (2004 est.)
| active=259,050 ([[List of countries by number of active troops|ranked 20th]])
| amount=$45,238.1 million (2003)
| percent GDP=2.6% (2003)
}}

Empty syntax

{{Military|
|color=
|age=
|availability=
|service=
|reaching age=
|amount=
|percent GDP=
}}

The template says that "males between 15 and 49" are fit for military service. 15 is a bit too low IMO, even the CIA World Factbook (where we usually get the data from, I guess) uses 18-49 now. Shouldn't we change it? – Alensha  21:59, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Males

I have been trying to use this template on a couple of articles, but I find it difficult because of the focus on males. Most militaries include females. I will remove the focus on males unless someone can give a good rationale for keeping it. --Ezeu 18:08, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I believe that only a minority of countries allow women to serve in their armed forces. A better solution would be to have a category for military-aged persons and a category for military aged males with only the category which is populated showing. --Nick Dowling 07:59, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template moving

Guys, don't you think it'd be a good idea to move this to an "Infobox template" (like Template:Infobox_Military) (or Template:Infobox_Armed Forces). -- Walter Humala Godsave him! (wanna Talk?) 17:03, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
